Hey, part of the PAC-12 deal involves ESPN. But I get the drift. I'll leave. Fine way to treat a guest!

This thread isn't about the real humongous Pac 12 television deal that's been fully disclosed and reported in the press, but the Potempkin BYU ESPN deal?

        Sorry. Never mind.

After decades of having to struggle to watch Utah sports, I finally will have come to the promised land.
You're justified in being excited about Utah the Pac 12 Network. Just like Minnesota, Indiana and Northwestern are frequently on the Big 10 Network (the Luckeyes are mysteriously absent on this network), Utah will be a staple of the Pac 12 Network.
Part of it is based on academic grounds. Among major conferences, the Pac-10 is the best academically, largely because of Stanford, Cal and UCLA. “Colorado is on a par with Oregon,” he said. “Utah isn’t even in the picture.”

              Ahem:

BYU fans must realign their thinking and base their self-worth on something other than the hope of Utah’s failing in the new league. Establishing some standard of acceptable football performance is critical for BYU, whether that’s the Top 25 or a BCS game or lower-tier bowl eligibility, and that becomes tricky now, outside of conference affiliation.

I wasn't quoting him because of who he is, but because I think his point is sound. What do you think of his point?

Ummm....no. Kragthorpe isn't the Utah beat writer for the Trib.

Seriously? Based on what? Did Kragthorpe start liking Utah after the two times we kicked his brother's ass on the playing field (2006 Armed Forces Bowl vs. Tulsa, 2007 regular season at Louisville). Or maybe his bias toward Utah came while his father was an assistant under Lavell at BYU.

I honestly don't know what point you're trying to make here regarding Krag, but if there's one media member who would be remotely justified in harboring a bias against Utah, it would be Kurt Kragthorpe, whose family has had more interaction with Utah football on a professional level than anyone else in the state.

The idea that Utah athletics has Kurt Kragthorpe in its collective back pocket like BYU does with Wrubell and Harmon is absurd, unless you believe the sports editor position at the Tribune is a monarchy of some sorts, and that Krag has to be a blood relative of John Mooney or Dick Rosetta (both of whom are unabashed Ute supporters).

                          Shirley, you can't be serious.

Kragthorpe is nothing compared to Wrubell or Harmon. He might hate on BYU, but he hates on Utah every chance he gets.

What a silly thing to say.

I don't know if Kragthorpe is a Ute fan or not, but this is a laughable statement. When Kragthorpe is hired for the sole purpose of writing pro-BYU propaganda, we can talk about him being a Harmon or Wrubell level of unbiased opinions.

I only quoted Kragthorpe to tease CMBF, who likes to troll us with mean, hurtful comments (which are really just playful smack) about how no one will ever watch Utah on TV.

Just to redirect the discussion, Kragthorpe said:

BYU fans must realign their thinking and base their self-worth on something other than the hope of Utah’s failing in the new league. Similarly, Utah fans should stop trying to make BYU's TV deal less than it is. Both schools are on their way, let's see how it goes for them. Meanwhile, I'm looking forward to upsetting the Cougs in Provo this year on ESPN.
