Is it easier to win your next conference game in September after a loss to your rival than it is in November?

I get what you're saying about bouncing back, but that point seems more relevant to bouncing back in the polls. It seems like it would just as difficult to get back up for the next game regardless if it were played in September or November.

What about this - what if the game were the last game on the schedule for both teams, just like it has traditionally been? Then there's no big conference game to worry about after. I guess you'd still have the conference championship (assuming Utah is in the hunt). Wishful thinking to believe that Utah will be in that game every year though.

Do these arguments fly on buffalouteforum.com?
The biggest bullshit argument is that the Utes will be in contention for a conference title. Everyone knows that won't be happening any time soon. The real reason the game won't happen in November is because Wazzu....errr...I mean Utah doesn't have enough pull to do what USC can do.
Part of it is based on academic grounds. Among major conferences, the Pac-10 is the best academically, largely because of Stanford, Cal and UCLA. “Colorado is on a par with Oregon,” he said. “Utah isn’t even in the picture.”

My stance would change. I wouldn't argue against it like I am just playing the game in November between conference games.

FSU vs. Miami is early every year. Florida Florida State has been the last weekend in November at least the last couple of seasons.

              Existant, just non-compelling.

College football is about pagentry and tradition. Getting the formerly great BYU/Utah game in September is like trying to eat a melted popcicle.

Look, if your new overlords in the PAC-12 won't let you play us in November, then we'll do it in September. I think 99% of BYU fans understand that. But when you first come at us with a Utah-now-has-leverage-on-BYU angle, and then morph into some convoluted second PAC-12 team in the BCS scenario, you shouldn't expect us to not call you out on it. Such comments are sooooooooooo utefans circa 2005. Time to start acting like the junior partners in the big law firm that you guys are now.

You are correct on this part of your statement and they shouldn't have the pull USC does.

Ok that is what I was thinking. I don't know enough about those 3 schools to know the rivalry hierarchy. How does Florida rank the instate rivalries? Same for Miami and Florida State?

Wow, those are 3 great in state schools now that I think about it. That is a lot of winning amongst the 3 of them.

I don't like the first game of the season, but I could go for second. If I were the utes, I would be playing a DII or really weak opponent opening weekend. BYU doesn't have that luxury.

I think all the junior partners are on the BYU side.

Come to think of it, outside LA Ute, are there any Ute fans that are laywers on this board? UD, but he's not arguing tonight.

UF and FSU are about 150 miles apart from each other so they have some major recruiting battles. Very similar really to the BYU Utah situation.

I just looked at the schedules on ESPN back to 2003 and it has been the last regular season game for both schools since 2003 and is again this year.

I'm against it being the opening game.

There is FAR too much uncertainty in opening games. I don't think it's really fair to the players and coaches to have so much on the line without any idea what you've got to work with.

First games are a crapshoot. It should be the 2nd or 3rd game of the year.

So Miami takes a back seat to both of the other schools even though it won more national championships during our lifetime? Interesting.

I really enjoyed the roadie to FSU this past season. Very fun place to watch a football game.

Miami is a small private school and FSU and UF are close and large state schools.

Has Miami won more NC's than the other two? UF has won three or four in the last 20 years and FSU has won at least one and probably more. I can only think of two or three for Miami.

edit. Miami has won 5 since 1983. Florida 3 and FSU 2. So yeah, you were right.
