Yeah, CBS Sports sold off ("sublicensed") games to NBCSN & ESPN (which is how BYU @ Boise State was on ESPN) last year, with the new restructured MWC TV deal, CBS Sports Network picks the top 10-15 games (tier 1), and now the MWC is able to sell off tier 2 & tier 3 now instead of CBS Sports doing that. I would assume BYU @ Nevada is a tier 1 game.

I thought CBSSN still had rights to all the MWC games (Tiers 1-3) and was selling them directly to the other networks instead of the games reverting back to the MWC for the conference to sell.Originally posted by UtahJazzFan88 View PostYeah, CBS Sports sold off ("sublicensed") games to NBCSN & ESPN (which is how BYU @ Boise State was on ESPN) last year, with the new restructured MWC TV deal, CBS Sports Network picks the top 10-15 games (tier 1), and now the MWC is able to sell off tier 2 & tier 3 now instead of CBS Sports doing that. This last year, yes. Next year, no.Originally posted by Pelado View PostI thought CBSSN still had rights to all the MWC games (Tiers 1-3) and was selling them directly to the other networks instead of the games reverting back to the MWC for the conference to sell.
I think the restructure was done because otherwise there were going to be some attorney fees accumulated by both sides since the MWC had a good argument that the agreement they originally signed to was killed with the Mountain going away. Rather than fight over the way CBS handled the contract the last two years, they restructured going forward.

Plus from some of the CBS Sports writers (Dodd I think?) reports last month when the tv deal was restructured, said the tier 2 & 3 rights are worth $24 million for the whole conference/2 million for each school. So their payout for the conference TV might still be pretty paltry, but at least it could be in the 3-4 million range.Originally posted by fbguru View PostThis last year, yes. Next year, no.

Nevada's starting QB was my high school's QB. He didn't care much for me, so I hope I didn't give him any extra motivation to light up the Cougs for 400+ yards. The Cougars lost at Nevada at Mackey Stadium in 2002 when then BYU head coach Gary Crowton made the infamous decision to fly his team into Reno the day of the game. The Wolfpack jumped all over the Cougars that day 31-28, and several reports surfaced of Nevada fans behaving in a very boorish manner towards the BYU team and its fans.Jesus wants me for a sunbeam.

There's three rules that I live by: never get less than twelve hours sleep; never play cards with a guy who's got the same first name as a city; and never go near a lady's got a tattoo of a dagger on her body. Now you stick to that, everything else is cream cheese. --Coach Finstock

It was also a game where Marcus Whalen had a 90+ yard TD run called back on a holding penalty on the opposite side of the field. It was also a game where Nevada had 3 or 4 consecutive false starts in the 4th quarter which allowed them to bleed 2 minutes off the clock without even running a play.Originally posted by Donuthole View PostIIRC, 90+ of which came on a pass to Nate Burleson at the LOS. Has that rule changed? If not, I don't know why teams don't do that more often.Originally posted by Indy Coug View PostIt was also a game where Marcus Whalen had a 90+ yard TD run called back on a holding penalty on the opposite side of the field. I'm still not sure what the clock rules are for this situation, but I do remember losing my mind back in 2002 when I saw them keep restarting the clock after marching off the 5 yards each time.Originally posted by wapiti View PostHas that rule changed? And Bret Engemman threw a pick 6 to close out the first half, which resulted in a benching in favor of Lance Pendleton. What a terrible, horrible, no good, very bad game.Originally posted by Indy Coug View PostIt was also a game where Marcus Whalen had a 90+ yard TD run called back on a holding penalty on the opposite side of the field. Engemann learned his lesson -- until he threw a Hail Mary pick-6 at the end of the 1st half against Utah State two weeks later.Originally posted by YOhio View PostAnd Bret Engemman threw a pick 6 to close out the first half, which resulted in a benching in favor of Lance Pendleton. That pick didn't infuriate me nearly as much as his effort to tackle the guy who intercepted the pick. That was a hell of a comeback though. I think he gets a bad rap. He had the talent to be as successful as a John Walsh if Crowton hadn't gone all circus with the QB position starting in 2002.Originally posted by The_Douger View PostBret Engemann might be my least favorite BYU QB ever.
Also, your least favorite ever? Have you been watching the last two years?
