We should be doing 2:1's with USU, Wyoming, New Mexico State, etc. That would balance out the 2:1's with Texas, Notre Dame, Michigan. But schools know our desperation and we're not getting market value for our scheduling offers.

When we're giving MTSU a 1/1, it shows our bargaining power.

MWC teams would be ideal for 2/1, but they're too prideful to admit BYU is above them in that fashion. So, they won't do it.

And I'm sure ESPN is "going to bat", but teams don't see a huge incentive to travel to Provo without 2 games at their place. They'll just go ahead and play Directional School in the Midwest and pay them 800k instead.

        • Living far away from Provo I have to admit that I don't really care if we do 1 and dones as long as the teams are respectable. Wisconsin and Michigan are great. So is Texas, although that's really a 2 for 1. I couldn't care less about the home schedule because I likely will never be in attendance at those games. It's fun for me to travel to Austin, Oxford, South Bend, Dallas, etc. and I hope we continue to get some of these types of games.

I know we need the home support and the only way to keep that up is to schedule good teams in Provo and I hope we have some good schedules down the road like we do in 2013.

We cannot expect to experience the blessing of faith by standing inactive on the sidelines any more than we can experience the benefits of health by sitting on a sofa watching sporting events on television and giving advice to the athletes. • It freaking sucks for us who buy season tickets.

Next year is admittedly a nice schedule, but most of our intersesting games are on the road. I usually go to a road game every year, but I think the fans that support the team by buying season tickets should be rewarded sometimes as well. For every 2/1 or 1 and done we sign, there generally has to be an equally crappy home game to make up for it.

If you look at this scheduling thing as a long-term process, I think it helps.

Consider that in the past BYU might get 1 good home game per season - 2 if you include Utah. But now Utah is out of the equation (as an auto home-home every year)

So if BYU is able to work their way into a couple of good home games, and ultimately even 3 of the 6 - that is an improvement over what was the WAC and MWC.

I just keep telling myself that BYU has to take some 2-1 deals to continue to build their credibility, and ultimately they'll get more and more 1-1 deals. But it's going to take some time. That said - I think I see the schedules getting progressively better. And in the meantime, there are some awesome away games to travel to for those who like to do so.

Virginia and BYU will meet in football for a two-game series in 2013 and 2014, the schools jointly announced today. The teams are scheduled to meet Saturday, Aug. 31, 2013, in Charlottesville and Saturday, Sept. 20, 2014, in Provo, Utah.

Virginia Executive Associate Director of Athletics Jon Oliver said the series came about following the announcement this year by the Atlantic Coast Conference that its member schools would go from a nine-game league slate to eight games starting in 2013.

"We feel fortunate that we were able to schedule a series with BYU, a school with a strong football tradition, on such short notice," Oliver said. "Historically the games have been very competitive and we look forward to opening the season against them in 2013 in Scott Stadium."

The 2013 season opener will be the fourth meeting in the series between the teams. Virginia defeated BYU 22-16 during the 1987 All-American Bowl in Birmingham, Ala. The Cavaliers defeated the Cougars 45-40 in Provo, Utah, in 1999 and the following season BYU downed UVa 38-35 in overtime in Charlottesville, marking the first overtime game in Virginia's history.

Virginia's other non-conference opponents in 2013 include Penn State on the road and VMI and Ball State at Scott Stadium. The dates for those three games and the ACC opponents for the Cavaliers' 2013 schedule will be announced at a later date.

                • I like it. NO, UVA isn't a powerhouse, but they put together really good teams regularly. Plus, it's a 1-1 with a BCS school.

                  • I think that is a good get with an already tough schedule. And a team BYU should dominate both games.

                        • I like it, although it would have been nice to have the 2013 game at Provo. For better or worse record-wise, BYU will be playing a BCS schedule next year. Does this look right?

I know Holmoe has already said one of the contracted games has been cancelled; has the identity of that opponent been disclosed yet? Some have speculated it's Wazzou, but I don't remember seeing anything official. If that's the case, I imagine a Weber State-type home game will be a quick fill to balance the home and away games and get another winnable game on the schedule.
