Well now here's a rumor.

Boise State and Air Force not joining the Big East after all...
They are going independent, as is Hawaii.
BSU and Hawaii are signing a contract with ESPN. Air Force is most likely going to join with Army and Navy in signing a contract with Comcast/NBC.
The desire is to get the Cotton bowl to take first pick between the independents minus Notre Dame, but the Holiday or Sun are looking more likely. Las Vegas and Poinsetta are also in the works.
Look for BSU and BYU to move their scheduled games all to Thanksgiving weekend. Hawaii and Air Force have both been looking at independence, and once it became obvious ESPN wasn't as interested in the Big East west division as Comcast was, ESPN and BYU made the case for independence to BSU, who is interested if they can get annual games with BYU, Hawaii, and Air Force to help with scheduling.
With bowl contracts up for renewal and the major changes in the college football landscape, there is only one power conference out west, and bigger western bowls are open to the idea of independents as long as they still have a pecking order choice. It doesn't hurt that ESPN is affiliated with most of the bowls games.
The Big East is most likely only going to invite some CUSA teams as all-sports members and remain a smaller conference. Don't know what else they could do at this point. Their play for the western division has failed.
I don't know what Notre Dame is going to do, but in my opinion it is telling that the same group that has Notre Dame's media rights is likely to gain the Big East media rights and the media rights for the service academies. Notre Dame has a history with all of them. I believe Notre Dame keeps its olympic sports in the Big East, but cuts back on the football scheduling agreement, and may look for other bowl opportunities- but that part is just my opinion.
