Ain't it like most people, I'm no different. We love to talk on things we don't know about.

Without a doubt. BYU should never play a 1-AA game any other time but Week 1. Unfortunately, reality just isn't that cooperative.Originally posted by Sizzle View PostThis. Which sucks because it means BYU has to have tougher games earlier, which means less of a chance to stumble working kinks out. Is there any doubt that swapping Virginia for Idaho State this year in the timing of the schedule would have changed the outcome of the Virginia game?

Ha, we were in Savannah this past summer and ate at Bubba's restaurant out on the road to Tybee. We also ate at a haunted bar in Savannah that has been featured on one of those ghost shows. Nothing creepy to report. Shrimp and grits is pretty good stuff.Originally posted by YOhio View PostPaula Dean's restaurant would be packed with BYU fans.Give 'em Hell, Cougars!!!
For all this His anger is not turned away, but His hand is stretched out still.
Not long ago an obituary appeared in the Salt Lake Tribune that said the recently departed had "died doing what he enjoyed most—watching BYU lose."

Not so. We've been able to schedule Standford and USC in November, but those are away games, the home dates are earlier in the year. Notre Dame in November away, but we haven't seen the home dates yet. Cal on the road in November.Originally posted by Indy Coug View PostIt's not weather, it's simple logistics. Late November is rivalry time for most schools and November has very few open slots for nonconference games. Frankly, it's a miracle Holmoe has nailed down so many quality November games in the future.

Yeah, but this isn't new with independence. BYU has had to schedule big name opponents early in the season for a long time, often in order to shore up SoS from the MWC slate. If anything independence has made it easier to distribute the load of tough games throughout the season rather than requiring everything to be front loaded due to more static conference schedules. It is going to remain pretty front heavy though unless/until we are in a BCS conference.Originally posted by Sizzle View PostThis. What is the reason we are playing at Stanford in November and at Provo in September in the 2020s? I didn't say it was due to the whether, Indy said it was "simple logistics." due to rivalry games, etc. Not so in the cases I mentioned.Originally posted by kccougar View PostThat has nothing to do with the weather.

In most years, we've had to have A tough game early, but still been able to balance it out with a 1AA game early in the season. With independence, we almost always have had a BYE week in November, as well as a FCS team in November. This year we don't have the BYE, but we've got the FCS game, which is essentially the bye, and three road games.Originally posted by lambdacoug View PostYeah, but this isn't new with independence. We typically had at least 1 FCS level team during conference play, they just happened to be in our conference. I'm thinking of you Wyoming, New Mexico, UNLV.Originally posted by Sizzle View PostIn most years, we've had to have A tough game early, but still been able to balance it out with a 1AA game early in the season. Seems like a lot of the SEC powers always schedule a breather in November to allow for an easy win coupled with other similarly ranked schools losing. Not saying we are intentionally following this strategy, just saying that it isnt always a bad idea to schedule an easy win in november.Fitter. Happier. More Productive.

Unrelated to the new games that were announced, but still on the thread topic:
A year ago, we discussed in this thread Holmoe's "we might take a big break" comment regarding the Notre Dame series. He said he was optimistic the four remaining games (two home, two away) would be played, but it sounded like it might be a while.
I wondered the other day if this might be planned or at least beneficial for BYU. If I remember correctly, BYU's original deal with ESPN runs for eight years. With no safety net of a conference, I imagine each contract renewal negotiation will be a what-have-you-done-for-me-lately, what-will-you-bring-in-the-future analysis of BYU's ratings, future schedule strength, etc. Having a couple of home games with BYU on the slate would help BYU in negotiations, would it not?

Unless we're in the playoff I don't really care what bowl we are in as long as we are in one. I'm likely to go to the Poinsettia Bowl so that works for me.Originally posted by The_Douger View PostAgreed.
I thought part of the point of leaving was to make our own way apart from that group. I like what we have going this year. Next year not so much.
