      • In summary:

Sav State in Provo on Thanksgiving weekend, 2014.

Hawaii in Provo the week before Thanksgiving, 2017.
Hawaii in Hawaii on Thanksgiving weekend, 2018.

Stanford @ Stanford on Thanksgiving weekend, 2020 and 2022.
Stanford in Provo in September, 2023 and 2025.

I like an even 4-game series with Stanford. I like to see Hawaii on the schedule. I like to see games of interest late in the year (Sav State and home game at LES with Hawaii excepted).

                • I thiink it's a bit overoptimistic for BYU fans to expect great games in Provo in November. It has nothing to do with respect. It's the weather. What decent team is going to want to travel to Provo to play in the cold and snow in November?

I think we'll see a lot more series with away November games and home games earlier in the year.

It's not weather, it's simple logistics. Late November is rivalry time for most schools and November has very few open slots for nonconference games. Frankly, it's a miracle Holmoe has nailed down so many quality November games in the future.

I don't plan anything that far in the future. I'm not sure I will even be alive when those games are played. As much as I love college football, sometimes it is really dumb.

When BYU first announced Independence, Alema interviewed the Army AD and asked about potential games with BYU in the future. He said that it could happen down the road but that Army was currently scheduling 6-10 years out. I think you have to operate that way to be successful as an independent. Let me rephrase that - I think that if you aren't doing it that way it is a pretty good indicator that you aren't being successful as an independent.

My statement wasn't meant as an indictment of BYU, I think everyone does this. Just seems dumb.

This. Which sucks because it means BYU has to have tougher games earlier, which means less of a chance to stumble working kinks out. Is there any doubt that swapping Virginia for Idaho State this year in the timing of the schedule would have changed the outcome of the Virginia game?
