Is StDSU staying in the MWC going to screw up our schedule next season? It seems like there's a lot of chatter about changing the date of the Hawaii game.

That seems like a good enough reason to me.
I may be off on my definitions. But declining to play a school because you are in a larger pond and don't want to compete for recruits sounds like it might actually fit into the description of what it means to marginalize.
And I have it on good - if not great - authority above the Utah does NOT want to marginalize BYU.
At least I understand that was what the most recent discussion was about. You seem to be agreeing with Y fans who indicate that the U is attempting to marginalize BYU - and offer the reasons that you do.

I thought the info above was that Utah does want to marginalize BYU, but that it's not because of some PAC-12 directive.
"I think it was King Benjamin who said 'you sorry ass shitbags who have no skills that the market values also have an obligation to have the attitude that if one day you do in fact win the PowerBall Lottery that you will then impart of your substance to those without.'"

Your facts are half correct. There is pressure on Utah's athletic department to put the Holy War on hold, but it is not from the PAC-12. It is from higher up in the administration at the University. And I can assure you that my two sources on the topic absolutely trump anything you think you have.
I should also add that the motivation has very little to do with marginalizing BYU. Much of you(or your sources) interpretation of the facts are spun to help BYU play the victim card.
I admit that a lot has been said that all seems contradictory. But this is what I was referring to:
I guess I glossed over JIC's second post there.

"The first thing I learned upon becoming a head coach after fifteen years as an assistant was the enormous difference between making a suggestion and making a decision."
"They talk about the economy this year. Hey, my hairline is in recession, my waistline is in inflation. Altogether, I'm in a depression."
"I like to bike. I could beat Lance Armstrong, only because he couldn't pass me if he was behind me."
It's similar to when my wife is talking. I usually listen to the first thing she says. The second thing - not so much.

My wife says i hear every 4th word. I am good at hearing without listening. I tell her to make the 4th words the important ones.

One of the grandest benefits of the enlightenment was the realization that our moral sense must be based on the welfare of living individuals, not on their immortal souls. Honest and passionate folks can strongly disagree regarding spiritual matters, so it's imperative that we not allow such considerations to infringe on the real happiness of real people.

I am a Cougar fan. I am just saying that there is a pretty clear logic to using whatever advantages you have in order to improve that status of your program. I would not blame the Utes one bit for doing this. I would not like it, but I think it would get Macchiavelli's stamp of approval.

What you are saying is what makes it weird that Ute fans would say that they aren't interested in marginalizing BYU. I mean, it makes sense to do so. Why not play up your conference and bigger fish to fry than the "team down south"?
But JIC says it isn't so. Which brings the question to full circle - if it isn't to marginalize BYU, then why would Utah want to cool off the rivalry and stop playing for an extended period of time?
Georgia Tech left the SEC in the 60's, yet UGA and GaTech, both state schools, still play each other in the last game, every season, without fail.

The only other reason would be to dumb down the schedule because they don't think they can get to 6 wins without three wins in the non-conference. But there are inconsistencies in that argument with the Fresno series.
The BYU game is a 50/50 game (or better). To replace BYU they signed a H/H with Fresno, who is nearly as dangerous but not nearly as lucrative. I'm guessing the Utes will lose over a million dollars by replacing BYU with Fresno. (Lower ticket prices/sales, travel, fan enthusiasm, etc). So they lost out financially but didn't gain much competitively.

I think some Utah fans are interested in marginalizing BYU, but that isn't the motivation of the school.
