Why would it take nearly a year to bring charges? And if he's being held without bail it suggests they've got a very strong case.

Does DNA take super long in real life to get back? On TV it takes a couple hours. That said, if it's DNA, how did they have his DNA to compare? If he gave his DNA, then he knew this was coming. Sad situation all around

I am certain that with there being a year long investigation that he knew that there were allegations against him and that he had been contacted about those allegations.

I think that Utah is caught up, but in 2018 there was an 11K rape kit backlog in Utah. I think now though they have to be submitted for processing in 30 days, but that is only submitted and not results returned. The rape kit testing is centralized now.

                    • What are folks' expectations for BYU football this upcoming season?

When BYU joined the Big 12 my thoughts on the conference was one of extreme parity. There are many anecdotes in the early years that seemed to support that. I thought it could be a conference where over a decade there could be multiple teams winning a championship. Once Oklahoma and Texas bolted to the SEC it looked like a conference without a true blue blood but many good programs and those programs who haven't been real good the past 20 years could be good again with the right leadership. Now it appears that Texas Tech and its boosters willingness to spend have elevated themselves as the class of the conference-but BYU is making a strong case to be in the next tier if not the top of it.

With the parity I believed was so prevalent in the Big-12 I was convinced that small things could have huge consequences and that there could consistently be huge swings in teams fortunes from season to season. So while Texas Tech has elevated itself vis-a-vis the rest of the Big 12 -I still have some trepidation about BYU being able to consistently be able to win double digit games-even with the performance of the last two seasons. So when I look at the roster for this season and see a team that other than not having any returning WRs without a high reception total is essentially without holes at this point in time, I still get nervous. It has been a long time since BYU had 3 straight double digit win seasons and it has never had this type of success against competition of this caliber.

Saying all that-this is a very talented BYU football team. It is one of the nation's leading teams for returning productivity. It returns 6 starters on offense- which isn't overwhelming but it includes the two most dynamic and best players in Bachmaier and LJ Martin. Losing Chase Roberts and Parker Kingston will hurt but given the returning rushing capability between both LJ and Bear and Bear's experience as a 2nd year QB - I think BYU can still have a very effective offensive unit. BYU returns three starters on the OL, but I think the talent at OL has been so significantly upgraded the past 3 recruiting years that I am confident BYU will be as good, and perhaps better than it has been the past two seasons, on the OL. It sounds like the transfer from Washington, Paki Finau, will take over at LT while the starter at LG is yet to be determined. It sounded to me that part time starter from the past two seasons, Sonny Makasini, wasn't even really in the competition to start at LG. One can take that as they may but my interpretation is that is an indictor that the recruiting has improved and he is likely going to be a reserve at OL behind more talented younger players such as Joe Brown, Andrew Williams and Ethan Thomason. I am hopeful that one of the WR will step up and be a stud/go to caliber receiver. The transfer from Oregon, Kyler Kasper, is supposedly very talented but had just been injured a lot at Oregon. I think many of us think that Jojo Phillips could also take a huge step up this year. The talk coming out of spring ball seemed heavily skewed towards the two tight ends. Walker Lyons was pretty good at SC and I expect him to make a jump at BYU to being good. Surprisingly, Salapeaga, transfer from Oregon, performed just as well. Hence, I am not sure there will be as many throws to WRs as there have been in past seasons. With Bear and LJ's capacity to control games on the ground and having two good well rounded TE's, capable of both blocking and pass catching, I see a lot a less offensive formations consisting of 3+ WRs.

Defensively, I like what BYU has this upcoming season. I think the DL can be good. The DTs have one potential NFL caliber player in Tanuvasa and then some good experienced upperclass guys and I think some talented young players. For whatever reason I think DT is the last position BYU has figured out how to recruit well. They are getting better, or at least more highly recruited, prospects but I think they could be another season or two from having multiple very good players at that position. This season will be a situation of one very good player and multiple good players. I think Tanuvasa is very good and I expect Kirkland, Purcell and Po'uha to be good. I think the DEs are on the verge of breaking out with multiple players who I think will be very good this season in Clegg, Akana and Taumoepau. BYU's LBs are stout with 3-4 very good players. I expect Siale Esera to be the most improved player on defense. He has an NFL body and I think with the experience he has gained he will be a consistent playmaker. Ulauve was scouted as a likely 4th round pick. I have read that Glasker was slightly hampered with injuries last season and whether or not that is true I think the BYU DL will be better than last year and I think the LBs will be better as well. The LBs won't just be better because of better DL play but I think Esera's improvement and the arrival of Jake Clifton as a reserve will give the LB corps more depth, experience and perhaps even more natural athleticism than the past couple of years when they were very good to begin with. I think Satuala is one of the best safeties BYU has had. Damuni is solid and experienced now. I think Tanner Wall is thee biggest loss on the defensive side, similar to Chase Roberts on offense, but given the collective returning talent at CB and Satuala, along with Damuni's experience, I expect BYU to be able to compensate there. Time will tell how much of a loss Jay Hill and the other coaches were but from a talent standpoint BYU ought to be a very good Big 12 defensive football team.

Put it all together and there should be some fairly high expectations of the quality football we have seen the past two seasons to continue and hopefully even take a step forward. Lady Luck has been good to us the past two years so perhaps she will finally turn against us and that parity of the Big 12 might manifest itself to us with BYU flopping.

                      • That's a very nice write-up. I'm especially pumped to see the LBs with Uluave coming board as he was a beast for Cal last year. Barring injuries--and please bar injuries--this could be the best Sitake year thus far.

                        • Thanks for that--gave me goosebumps! I am extremely optimistic headed into this next season and would be disappointed without a double digit season.

I'm looking forward with great anticipation how Bear improves as a Sophomore.

                            • I think BYU has the potential to take another step forward. Bear has that freshman year out of the way and all reports are that he has raised his game to another level. RB-wise, we have a tad more depth and should be excellent if the injury bug stays away from LJ and Moa. I'm not worried about the O-line at all. All the question marks belong to the receivers. However, I believe they made the necessary acquisitions in the portal to mitigate the loss of Roberts and Kingston. Legend Glasker will make us wonder why we were worried. Even worse for the opposition is our strong tight end group. BYU will have many offensive options next season.

Defensively, BYU reloaded. The LB group is arguably better than last year. I have no worries about the trenches and the defensive backfield.

The one thing I want to see is a change to our tendency to lose the first half only to have to make it up in the second half. I want to see complete games.
