Truth? How is what you posted truth? I was unaware of your ability to predict the future. I'll just sit back now and let some of the fans of your school tell you the truth about SoCalCougarhater.

WAC and MWC assure each other's mutual destruction. WAC actually comes out ahead because it will exist.

In the eyes of the BCS, the MWC doesn't -- all the sudden

We saw already what the 2011 schedule was going to look like before Fresno and Nevada torpedoed your plans. Blecch.

Yep it is getting better and better. The Demise, to lateral. If we are making 10 times as much money (Est. of 10 million per year) how is that a lateral move?

Topute you may want to figure out the math on that one. You know the weird thing we didn't have to tell ESPN that we would pay our own way for the first few years, they actually offered us money. Utah is like that shitty softball player that nobody wants to play with the only way he can ever find a team to play on is by offering to pay for the league and tournament fees. You can always spot the sponsor. Utah is that way regarding the pac-10, we really didn't want them but they give us a 12th and that allows us to make more money, and for the first few years they offered to pay their own way we don't even have to split the pot with them!

BTW, I haven't been back to uf.n in a while so I sure hope you're not being a zoot over there because you were one of the few that seemed reasonable. That place needs a few more posters willing to get their hands dirty. Maybe then a few more voices of opposition would stick around long enough to enjoy the sports discussions that occasionally break out. Not saying the myriad of zoobs that post-and-run don't deserve a good drubbing but it seems that the board would have a lot more posters if they didn't run-off so many so quickly.
I'm just having a bit of fun. In truth, I don't think it's a mistake, nor do I think it's a good thing for BYU to go independent. What I found humorous was everything that happened:

            • Utes get invited to PAC 12 and zoobs (not BYU fans) get bent out of shape because it wasn't BYU
            • BYU starts to openly discuss independence in football but what to do with the other sports?
            • BYU seems to have found a home in the WAC for the other sports, but the MWC invites FSU and Nevada to join the MWC, which pretty much puts a halt to BYU going to the WAC
            • BYU seems resigned to being stuck in the MWC for a bit longer

            • BYU agrees to participate in the WCC in all sports in order to be independent in football

The entire situation was fun to watch for a Ute fan. I do wish BYU well in the new situation. And it will be just as humorous for me to see the reaction of zoots when BYU not crash and burn as so may think that the demise of the Cougars is imminent.

Just a heads up since your timeline is cherry picked (something Topdouche would do) BYU was talking independence long before there was any Utah to the Pac-10 noise. This was not a knee jerk reaction. They did not just break ground on a multi-million dollar broadcast facility nor did they purchase a 50 million dollar HD truck back in June. This has been in the works for years.

I don't doubt it's been talked about for quite some time, but even you can't deny that it was pushed to the top of the priority list because the Utes were invited to the PAC 10.

Fair enough. Certainly the majority of BYU fans were in the "Why not us" crowd and yes, as I pointed out in other threads, for many Cougar fans admitting the timing of independence was directly related to the Ute's departure was to say the least, painful. Sure it had been discussed for a few years but Utah's invite made for perfect timing if not for the imperfect reason. To each his own though. I'll continue to beat the drum of positivity for my team in hopes that it leads to greener oil fields pastures.

Revenue stays the same now its split amongst 6 teams instead of 9.

All you need is 6 teams in order to have an autobid for Hoops.

They end up with more money, and become a desirable option for teams looking to jump.

The MWC now takes the 10 million per year in revenue that they are splitting between 9 teams, they lose minimum of 3 million with the loss of the BYU and Utah perennial bowl payouts, so now they have 7 million per that they are splitting amongst potentially 12 teams.

Without BYU and Utah they become completely irrelevant (Think MAC conference).

There is no such thing as betrayal in sports. It's all about what's best for each individual team/school, no?

I have no clue of the timeline but the broadcast center whose sole purpose was to broadcast and produce BYU sporting events was in the works 4+ years ago.

Yup, I think this is true. BYU didn't want to stay behind with a low paying deal if Utah went ahead. I think there were a few other things keeping BYU in the MWC, most probably a loyalty to Utah, not wanting to leave Utah behind in the MWC. When Utah left, there was nothing keeping BYU there.

I'm just happy everyone is talking about BYU again. The administration has shown that they will not allow themselves to be relegated to the trash heap of NCAA history.

I realize there's a risk of failure and a risk of unparalleled success. Tonight, I'm giddily concentrating on the success.

I don't know, really but WAC has a TV contract. If, and I don't know, but if the MWC really has to renegotiate their contract (and my guess is if the 87% of veiwership was out of the state of Utah is true, that comcast will demand it) then my guess is some school presidents aren't going to be too happy. I don't think the WAC and MWC are done.

What advantage does the MWC hold over the WAC for now. Is TCU next to say peace out? Would they be better off in CUSA?
