I'll take that as a "Yes, BYU really pushed for it to happen because Utah got a PAC 10 offer".Originally posted by cougjunkie View PostI have no clue of the timeline but the broadcast center whose sole purpose was to broadcast and produce BYU sporting events was in the works 4+ years ago."Socialism is a philosophy of failure, the creed of ignorance and the gospel of envy; its inherent virtue is the equal sharing of misery." - Winston Churchill

I certainly dont disagree that the timing and probabyl even the fact of this move was driven by Utah's departure to the Pac whatever. What I am not clear about is why you think this si so importnat to note.Originally posted by il Padrino Ute View PostI'll take that as a "Yes, BYU really pushed for it to happen because Utah got a PAC 10 offer".PLesa excuse the tpyos.

I find this entirely accurate.Originally posted by Katy Lied View PostYup, I think this is true. BYU didn't want to stay behind with a low paying deal if Utah went ahead. I think there were a few other things keeping BYU in the MWC, most probably a loyalty to Utah, not wanting to leave Utah behind in the MWC. When Utah left, there was nothing keeping BYU there.
While BYU and Ute fans beat up on each other, it is interesting to see how loyal the two programs were to each other for so long. Even though the fans hate each other, I think BYU and Utah admins probably get along quite well."Don't expect I'll see you 'till after the race"

Not that many are likely to care, but without Utah, the WCC is academically stronger than is the MWC.
Degrees from Gonzaga, Loyola Marymount, and the University of San Diego are strong, and a degree from Pepperdine or the University of San Francisco isn't bad either. These schools aren't Ivy League, but as academic institutions they impress me more than does every current MWC school except BYU, Utah, and Air Force.Last edited by Sleeping in EQ; 08-31-2010, 06:42 PM.We all trust our own unorthodoxies.

I'm really, really nervous about this move. Here's the one thing that makes me think it will all work out okay: BYU may be the most risk-averse school in the country. To me, this looks like "high risk/high reward," but BYU doesn't roll that way.
They're calculated and sometimes painfully slow. Thus, there has to be something better around the corner (or maybe I'm just mind effing myself).Jesus wants me for a sunbeam.

WAC played on Friday night...not Tuesday and WednesdayOriginally posted by Top Ute View PostDude, your games are going to be broadcast on Tuesday and Wednesday nights on ESPN. Just like Boise was going to fill Utah's spot on the MWC schedule, your ESPN games will fill out Boise's spots on ESPN. Hell, your FSU game this year ranks dead last of five games on ESPN/ABC's priority list for games its broadcasting that night. Get a clue.Dyslexics are teople poo...

And I am guessing that there is now zero chance that Nevada and Fresno weasel out of the $10M. How on earth are they (or the MWC) going to come up with that money now?Originally posted by cougjunkie View PostRevenue stays the same now its split amongst 6 teams instead of 9.
All you need is 6 teams in order to have an autobid for Hoops.
They end up with more money, and become a desirable option for teams looking to jump.
The MWC now takes the 10 million per year in revenue that they are splitting between 9 teams, they lose minimum of 3 million with the loss of the BYU and Utah perennial bowl payouts, so now they have 7 million per that they are splitting amongst potentially 12 teams.
Without BYU and Utah they become completely irrelevant (Think MAC conference)."There is no creature more arrogant than a self-righteous libertarian on the web, am I right? Those folks are just intolerable."
