I'll take that as a "Yes, BYU really pushed for it to happen because Utah got a PAC 10 offer".

I certainly dont disagree that the timing and probabyl even the fact of this move was driven by Utah's departure to the Pac whatever. What I am not clear about is why you think this si so importnat to note.

                I find this entirely accurate.

While BYU and Ute fans beat up on each other, it is interesting to see how loyal the two programs were to each other for so long. Even though the fans hate each other, I think BYU and Utah admins probably get along quite well.

Not that many are likely to care, but without Utah, the WCC is academically stronger than is the MWC.

Degrees from Gonzaga, Loyola Marymount, and the University of San Diego are strong, and a degree from Pepperdine or the University of San Francisco isn't bad either. These schools aren't Ivy League, but as academic institutions they impress me more than does every current MWC school except BYU, Utah, and Air Force.

I'm really, really nervous about this move. Here's the one thing that makes me think it will all work out okay: BYU may be the most risk-averse school in the country. To me, this looks like "high risk/high reward," but BYU doesn't roll that way.

They're calculated and sometimes painfully slow. Thus, there has to be something better around the corner (or maybe I'm just mind effing myself).

All you need is 6 teams in order to have an autobid for Hoops.

They end up with more money, and become a desirable option for teams looking to jump.

The MWC now takes the 10 million per year in revenue that they are splitting between 9 teams, they lose minimum of 3 million with the loss of the BYU and Utah perennial bowl payouts, so now they have 7 million per that they are splitting amongst potentially 12 teams.

Without BYU and Utah they become completely irrelevant (Think MAC conference).
And I am guessing that there is now zero chance that Nevada and Fresno weasel out of the $10M. How on earth are they (or the MWC) going to come up with that money now?
