I'm not sure what his connections are, but TN Coug is saying that BYU has scheduled 2-3 more BCS schools for 2011 and ND may actually happen next year. These games will apparently be announced tomorrow. He's claiming that he knows what they are but can't tell the board.

Of course, the rumor/info is worth what I paid for it. It wouldn't surprise me. I looked at the schedules for a huge number of teams and a ton of schools have open slots.

There are no 1-AA's this year. I can pretty much guarantee that there will be next year (if they play an independent schedule).

One 1-AA school is very likely.

I do think the limited TV exposure (CBSCS, VS. the mtn) probably caused some problems for BYU. First, a lot of schools don't want to schedule competitive nonconference opponents and they're really not going to want to schedule them when they play on some network no one gets. They want their games on display to sell themselves to recruits.

It's very hard to form an opinion on this without knowing the expectations and probabilities for future Big 12 or other changes.

Another factor is that the MWC of 2012 is not going to be what it feels like today. With no Utah and the addition of Nevada and Fresno and moving to divisions where you don't play everyone twice in BB, it will be a serious step down from what it is today, and that should be factored.

Overall, I'd say I'm fairly neutral about the whole thing. If I knew we'd be in the WCC for five years, I'd say It was a bad move.

BYU joined the Sewanee/University of the South, Tulane University and the University of Chicago in making significantly backward steps in the relevance of their athletic programs. It's not a good list if you're looking to become/retain athletic dominance status.

Dude, that is some serious wishful thinking on your part that this will lead to the demise of BYUs program. I know that is what you are hoping for how many athletic departments have you ran in your lifetime? I am glad that you and your fellow ute fans know what is best for BYU.

Did you notice that nobody talked about the MWC being dead when Utah left, the MWC added a better program in Boise and moved on. However Craig Thompson did everything in his power to keep BYU from leaving, I mean everything. ESPN the largest sports conglomerate in the world approached BYU about doing a deal as an independent, so obviously there is some value there.

The current situation in the MWC with the Comcast/MTN/CSTV/Versus deal pretty much makes BYU and the rest of the conference a "total afterthought in the collegiate sports world." It can't get any worse.

Sure, moving to the WCC is a step backward for the rest of the sports. But if this move:

1. Puts BYU football (and basketball) on ESPN several times a year,

2. Increases revenue and visibility for the athletic department (getting rid of the "mid-major" label and helping us keep pace with Utah and other BCS teams), and

3. Has even a moderate possibility of facilitating a move to the Big 12,

then I think it's a reasonable move. Would we rather have an invite in hand to the Big 12? Sure. But this doesn't seem like a crazy move to me, even if the Big 12 invite doesn't happen.

So how likely is a Big12 invite? It sounds like most byu fans are confident the invite is right around the corner but what is preventing the Big12 from inviting byu right now?
I don't understand why they need to wait until NU and CU leave in order to invite byu right now.
