I obviously don't know Heaps personally, but I would think there's got to be a bit of him that's relieved by this decision. I know he wants to start and to play early in his career, but to be named the starter as a true freshman, against your home town team whose heart you broke, that's got to be an overwhelming situation.
This way, Heaps gets lots of playing time (hopefully), but without nearly as much pressure. If he's rusty his first few possessions, or even the whole game, and we lose, it can't all be pinned on him. That kind of weight could be crushing. Sure, he seems like a tough kid who could bounce back, but it might not be until next season. This way he can hopefully grow and develop without the threat of a major mental scar.Ain't it like most people, I'm no different. We love to talk on things we don't know about.

Did you see that nasty Doman boy and how he pointed his fingers at the nice Ute fans? That was so mean!Originally posted by Ted Nugent View PostOh the memories of the 1983 Holiday bowl...

This year is most likely going to be a rebuilding year.At least the Big Ten went after a big-time addition in Nebraska; the Pac-10 wanted a game so badly, it added Utah

Great, thats just what we need. Miles and miles of over-sized, water-filled nuts that can't survive a single kick in the shorts.Originally posted by wuapinmon View PostBut they spread their seeds everywhere.Ain't it like most people, I'm no different. We love to talk on things we don't know about.

Lack of rythym is a killer in these situations. I remember the Crowton days when he was just about rotating QBs every play.Originally posted by BGRTHNUMEGO View PostOne clear disadvantage that this situation creates for Heaps is that the lack of rhythm within the offense with rotating QBs is going to be more easily overcome by Nelson. He's going to have fewer reads to make, his personal rhythm will develop more quickly because of his designed runs, and his passing limitations mean he'll be doing a lot of check downs and drop offs anyway.
But my hope is that Heaps looks the situation as a challenge, and that if he really is a special player in waiting that he steps up and proves he is the superior option. He's certainly not in the ideal situation to make that happen, but the visibility of games gives him an ideal platform to take the job if he shows he deserves it.
IMO, the only 2 qb system that works is where the dropback passer plays 80 to 90 percent of the plays and the other guy comes in and take a couple snaps to run the option. Then once or twice a game the running QB fakes the option, drops back and hits a receiver on a long bomb. For a QB, rythym is crucial."Discipleship is not a spectator sport. We cannot expect to experience the blessing of faith by standing inactive on the sidelines any more than we can experience the benefits of health by sitting on a sofa watching sporting events on television and giving advice to the athletes. And yet for some, “spectator discipleship” is a preferred if not primary way of worshipping." -Pres. Uchtdorf

CJ's always been one to knock Utah at every chance, but he doesn't seem to be too much of blue-goggler. He knows way more than me and I like how his prediction makes me feel, so I'm on board!Originally posted by Flystripper View Posthope so but I think you drastically undervalue UW and UNR.At least the Big Ten went after a big-time addition in Nebraska; the Pac-10 wanted a game so badly, it added Utah

And that's why, for all the talk of giving each guy an equal chance to win the job and putting them both in situations to perform well, it is the true freshman that is being put at a very clear disadvantage if they use Nelson as anything more than a situational QB.Originally posted by Eddie Jones View PostLack of rythym is a killer in these situations. I think you overestimate how much a loss would hurt the psyche. It is his first college game and he is a true freshman. If losing your first game as a true freshman at home is going to ruin you for the whole season then you are not the QB of the future.Originally posted by falafel View PostThat kind of weight could be crushing. Please let this be true. I would be thrilled if Nelson is the guy and get most of the snaps.Originally posted by KillerDog View PostI think this is a ruse. I think Nelson is the guy and Heaps will have a series at some point in the game. If Heaps does well, we may continue to see him. I really think we see Nelson for most snaps this year.As I lead this army, make room for mistakes and depression

Because it is Washington? If he can't get over that, he is weak minded. Seriously. If he is unable to shrug off a loss in his first college game as a true freshman then he is weak.Originally posted by falafel View PostMaybe. This this isn't just "a loss."

We own Air Force we will smash the shit out of them like we always do. Our front 7 is faster than its been since 2006 and much more athletic. We have corners who are great at tackling and the best safety in the conference. I am not worried about Air Force. Not to mention our O-line always dominates the pipsqueak cadets and wears them down. We will run it down their throats and win going away.Originally posted by Top Ute View PostI'm sorry ... was I the first one to talk about the pratfalls presented by AFA?*Banned*
