Yeah, but the question he was asked was "What do you think people will think of the decision to go to a 2 QB system by the time the season's over?"Ain't it like most people, I'm no different. We love to talk on things we don't know about.

You mean Bronco, the DC who was the father (or maybe Godfather, or stepfather, or older sibling) of the 3-3-5 defense, the one that was built on confusing the opponent. How long could he stick with a two-QB situation designed to confuse the other defenses so they have to plan for TWO types of offense instead of one?Originally posted by RC Vikings View PostHow long would Bronco put up with a DC who couldn't decide between a 3-4 and a 4-3 and one week before the first game declared he was going to go with both? Come on Bronco get some balls and make a decision.
Honestly, probably until Heaps either shows that he is ready to take the reigns full time, or until he shows that he isn't ready.

This is probably what irks me the most about this. It shows indecision on Bronco's part. He's trying to win both sides. And I just don't see this working out.Originally posted by RC Vikings View PostHow long would Bronco put up with a DC who couldn't decide between a 3-4 and a 4-3 and one week before the first game declared he was going to go with both? No knock on Riley, but he just doesn't fit the BYU system. And I don't think he's so exceptionally talented that we should alter our system for him. If you had a rare talent then fine, but he's not. If he wants to play and make an impact then the coaches could sit his ass down and talk to him about switching positions.
I doubt they keep the system up all year, but suppose they do. What next year?
Bottom line, will playing Reilly net more wins than playing Heaps? Will playing a 2 QB system net more wins than playing Heaps?"Nobody listens to Turtle."-Turtlesigpic

My gut feeling about the people upset about this: they want Heaps to be great, but the fact is he's not great yet. I think everyone, including Bronco, know that Heaps being great is the best possible solution. I'm assuming what has happened is that Bronco and coaches have indeed made a decision. The decision is that Heaps is not good enough to hand over the reigns yet. That's actually a more ballsy decision than choosing Heaps because everyone wants Heaps to be great. The decision the coaches are making by going to 2 QB is giving Heaps more chances to progress and become good enough to be the main guy eventually.
edit: IOW: the decision has been made. It's Nelson. But because Heaps is special, we're going to drag it out a little longer to see if he comes around eventually.

I've come to the opposite conclusion. The long-term decision is made. It's Heaps. But because he's not quite ready for showtime, we'll drag this out a little longer until he's ready to take the reins by himself.Originally posted by jay santos View Postedit: IOW: the decision has been made. Does anyone really see this as anything but a "we have a real talent who's not quite old/mature/experienced enough to throw to the wolves yet"? It's not Nelson. It's Heaps-delayed. Otherwise, Heaps would be the backup, and they would call him that right now. Heaps will be the starter by game 4.At least the Big Ten went after a big-time addition in Nebraska; the Pac-10 wanted a game so badly, it added Utah

I worded that wrong. The decision for Saturday Sep 4 is made. It's Nelson. The longer term decision has still not been made.Originally posted by ERCougar View PostWait...I was all with you until the edit...
