So, in his defense, while he did make a living off smaller schools, he also did it against the best in 3A (and arguably the top tier of 4A) as well.
He was a terrific high school talent. Like, as you said, Lance Pendleton was.

But just as we see with many great college QB's making the significant change to playing against NFL talent, when you go up against far superior defensive secondaries and the receivers aren't wide open anymore, then the passing limitations of guys like Nelson and Pendleton are magnified and it severely limits their effectiveness running.

And of course everyone knows that. I just have a fear growing that the coaches are going to hope that Nelson's "maturity" will lead to him making fewer mistakes to start the season, so they'll trot him out until they see just how much his throwing handicaps what the offense can do.

Riley Nelson would make a great safety.

It's formulaic already for crying out loud.
If BYU blazes the path that Utah did last year they will not start Riley Nelson, they will name him 3rd on the depth chart and he will transfer in a huff. Riley Nelson is pretty much the same player as Louks, a great athlete with an inability to throw the ball. I will be shocked if Heaps isn't named the starter.

I disagree. That year Logan beat eventual 5A champ Skyline. Nelson played brilliantly. I personally thought that Logan team was the best team in the state.

I was wondering when you'd show up. I was doing my best to keep the thread alive until you could come to Nelson's defense.

I'm just trying to figure out what part of your post he was disagreeing with.

Sounds like Lark had a nice day today. Doubt it pushes him into the picture much, but I would love for someone to replace Riley as the back up at some point.

And Payne had another Payneful day. 0-2. Short on a 51 ydr and wide right on a 37 yarder. Awesome.

BTW, the guy I mentioned earlier, Foote, had a 7 yard td on the day. I'll wait to buy his jersey though.

I think he was disagreeing with the fact that I don't disagree with BGR (though I did throw out an anecdote to show that he was painting with a bit of a broad brush in his assessment).

Not at all, I was just trying to point out that Riley Nelson sucks as a QB.

Be fair. He only sucked in the last game he started. And a few before that.
