Edit: i also thought the d played well. I wasn't understanding the game thread in the first half. The offensive ineptitude was clearly the issue.
Agreed. The defense held up relatively well considering the gut punch the offense delivered on the first play from scrimmage and essentially getting no support from the offense.

That said, they could not get off the field on 3rd down. And it seems the longer the line to gain, the more likely the defense is to give up the first down.

And maybe recognize who their best receiver is before he's caught 10 passes and 2 touchdowns.

    • One of the best things on this board is the tolerance for jackassery. During the game, my stream of consciousness is both jack and ass. Nice to have a place to go with no judgement.

        I blame the thread title.

And Hall for not being properly warmed up for the first half.

What's with the refs ignoring the defensive holding (repeatedly) by Nacua's defender?

Would have been nice if Nacua would have caught the catchable balls anyway.

BYU's best wide receiver might just be Kody Epps. Dude is making plays.
Feel free to go hogwild for next week's. After a good run, I can't bring home the bacon anymore. My creativity just seems hogtied lately. Maybe I could squeeze in a joke about Arkansas and UT's justification for carrying an AR-15, but I don't know.

        • I am not as upset about this game as I was the Oregon game.

Though the first half offense was very embarrassing.

I have to tap out when things get too intense. The things I want to say are just too unhinged. I don't even have tolerance for myself during BYU games.

That would be a feral move.

              • Normally the criticism I see on here during the game is warranted. Yesterday though, reading folks complain about the defense....I just couldn't do it. It was the best 1st half the defense had played since USF. Offense was hot garbage.

Do we have issues? Yep. Do we have coaching issues? Yep. Do we win out? Also yep. We will finish 10-2 and realize that the ND game is the one that most likely caused us a shot at a NY6 game.

If you look at our recruiting rankings, somewhere between the 60's and the 80's, we are continually punching above our weight class. All of this will improve with the B12 next year.

                • That's a lot of optimism. I think BYU still loses to Arkansas and Liberty.

Yeah, they did a feature before the game and BYU recruiting classes have been in 70-80 range in recent years while ND is consistently top 10. A few plays go differently and we win that game. Oh well.

I think we will go 9-3. Which would be fantastic given this schedule.

Well yeah....optimism is my thing. That is why I had to dip out of this thread yesterday. Lol.

BYU’s ESPN FPI tracker shows us at 8-4. Probably splitting the next two games, and managing to drop another one after that. Likely a fair analysis.

Bottom line is the team didn’t play well enough to win. Our defense is never going to shut a good team down; our expectation is that they slow the other side enough that our offense can outrun the other D. Last night our defense was just a little behind that already low expectation, and the offense waaay below it’s expectation. Too bad, because I think an at-par showing by the offense wins that game.

oh well. On to the next one.

                          This is a sensible take.

The Texas rout of OU made yesterday palatable. And Utah losing!

                          • BYU has 3 losable games left - Arkansas, Liberty, and Boise.

Arkansas has more talent than BYU. Liberty is at home and has a chip on its shoulder, BYU is a perfect game for them to notch up a win. And Boise is at home, we rarely play them well, and it's the last game they will play before the series ends. There is a lot of motivation to beat BYU. I think we go 1 - 2 in these three games with the way we have been playing.

Does "the way we have been playing" include the offensive performance from yesterday? Because to me that is an anomaly. If you throw that out and the offense can play to their season average then the floor for those three games is 2-1 with Arkansas being the most dangerous. Give me the defense from yesterday with our typical offensive performance and I'm very confident we beat Arkansas.

Honestly, yeah, the D did it's job yesterday. It's still sooooo hard to watch.
