I wonder how they'd work around the ecclesiastical endorsement?Originally posted by Katy Lied View PostI've thought for a long time that what BYU should do is assign 2 interns to visit JM regularly to oversee some sort of extension credit. They can spoonfeed him the material and facilitate his taking of the tests. He could even get credits for serving as some kind of lab rat to study the longterm effects of sub-concussive injury, by keeping a journal and recording his struggles. It would help him to graduate, it would help BYU collect data, it would help further the science of football head injuries. The interns could get education/teaching credits or neuro credits."Wuap's "problem" is that he is smart & principled & committed to a moral course of action. His actions are supposed to reflect his ethical code.
The rest of us rarely bother to think about our actions." --Solon

he just has to have a priest or an LDS bishop sign off on it. I'm sure he could find one or the other.Originally posted by wuapinmon View PostI wonder how they'd work around the ecclesiastical endorsement?
One thing is for sure, if this is ever going to happen then BYU has to take some initiative, and fast. It would be a shame for Jimmy Mac to lose his memory and be physically unable to complete the graduation requirement, especially because he took plenty of hits while playing 4 years at BYU.Dio perdona tante cose per un’opera di misericordia

Knock it off. This board has enough problems without a dose of middle-age lechery.

I wonder how Bronco would feel about this? Jim gets into Hall of Fame, but wouldn't be recruited now days?Originally posted by wuapinmon View PostI wonder how they'd work around the ecclesiastical endorsement?
I guess you just say, hey things were different back then and leave it at that.

How can Jim McMahon, by any measure that has anything to do with football, not be in the BYU sports hall of fame? I think it is embarrassing. If he was good enough to represent the university on Saturday afternoons, he is good enough to be in its hall of fame.PLesa excuse the tpyos.

How long has he been living with his GF? Surely it's been long enough to rationalize it as a common law marriage which puts him in the clear on that front. Now that caffeinated beverages are off the list of bad things maybe we can negotiate an old school interpretation of the WoW and allow him mild barley beverages.Originally posted by wuapinmon View PostI wonder how they'd work around the ecclesiastical endorsement?

Yeah no question McMahon needs to go into the BYU Hall of Fame. Really who cares about graduation or honor code stuff at this point 30 years later?

If they do not bend on this I will have 2 things I will forever curse BYU for..
1. BYU removing their Wrestling program
2. Not allowing Jimmy Mac in to the Hall of Fame.
The idea that the BYU Suits would not show mercy on this to a person who may not have his mental capacity in the near future just makes me plumb mad dog mad (A little play of words on the quote)...

I didn't know until I saw the SI cover.Originally posted by SteelBlue View PostI didn't realize McMahon was deteriorating mentally. I just assumed he was deteriorating mentally based on my interactions with other BYU attendees from that time period.Originally posted by SteelBlue View PostI didn't realize McMahon was deteriorating mentally.
