Pretty obvious where the fans stand on this matter. If there is a trifling obstacle for McMahon to overcome to get inducted into BYU's Hall of Fame, I hope he goes after it. That he's not a part of it when he so clearly should be just makes it a little bit less of an honor for those already inducted.

Additionally, I wish someone with clout at the U could get the athletic department to make a donation toward McMahon's cause or preferred charity. We talk a good game about lessening the ugly side of the rivalry, doing something for McMahon would be a great show of practicing what you preach.

BYU is the only major college with an athletic Hall of Fame (or the equivalent) that requires inductees to have graduated. I've done some research, though not exhaustive. USC, Texas, Ohio State, Michigan, Alabama, Oklahoma - none of them require Hall of Fame (or equivalent) inductees to have graduated.

Further, this "rule" was put into place while McMahon was at BYU (it did not exist before), and was so transparently intended to affect him that it's ridiculous for BYU to claim otherwise.

And now everyone acts like their hands are tied by this rule.

It's shameful and very simple: get rid of the rule. We're on par with Division 2 and Division 3 programs by having the rule in the first place; not major college athletic programs. And it's preventing athletes who have accomplished great things in the name of the university (McMahon, Elewonibi) from being duly honored.

A BYU athletic Hall of Fame without McMahon is an embarrassment.

Sadly I don't really think the academic thing is the issue. If those who want Jim in would actually somehow get ESPN to do a national story on him not being in, I have no doubt within a short period of time he would be in.

Do you really think if BYU BB had not been on the national stage, Davies would have been allowed to sit with the BB team, be cheered by the student body and fans and travel to the NCAA's with the team?

It's totally stupid he's not in there.

I've emailed with Holmoe about it, and it's one of his big goals to get Jim in there. Holmoe loves him and told me in the email that he thinks Jim is the best player to lace them up in BYU history.

He was the best college player, IMO. But Luke Staley still had the most impressive and dominating individual season.
