But that's Creekster's whole point - while he deserves credit for building the program to the point where the PAC had interest, he almost certainly deserves no credit for "negotiating" Utah's way into the PAC. I (or I suppose, even you) could have stepped into Hill's shoes and accomplished that feat.

Have you considered the enormous assumptions underlying that point? Maybe you and creekster know a lot more than the rest of us about the nature and content of the discussions.

I don't claim it. But you seem a little like the kid who knows a secret and just can't stand it that he can't tell it. Do you, LAUte, know somethign that is not widely reported? If so, please spill it. If not, based on the evidence I have seen, even a trained monkey could have said yes when the PAC-XX came calling.

My guess is he acquitted hiimself well, and probabyl negotiated a decent deal, but to compare his decision to accept the Pac-10 offer to Macarthur or claim it was a brilliant move seems a bit much, expecially in the context fo this thread, which began, as you may recall, by making suggestions to Holmoe and then turned to criticizing holmoe by cmoparing his position to the brilliance of Hill's actions in the last few weeks. Go ahead, show me how I am wrong. Seriously, I can take it (any follower here knows I have been wrong many, many times in the past and have even gotten used to it). Look, once Texas said no and colorado had already said yes, where else was the Pac-XX going to turn? Who was Hill competing with?

I am not saying anything about any brilliant move. Did someone else? Seriously, I have not scoured this thread. I am just responding to the claim that there was nothing to it. We don't know enough about what happened to know whether the feat was easy or hard. It may even have been brilliant. We don't know enough to have an informed view about that either. All I know for sure is that Chris Hill worked his hiney off to make this happen.

I don't know enough about Tom Holmoe to have an opinion about him, but I am inclined to think well of him, FWIW. I also think Hill was very smart to remain silent as a sphinx about what was going on, not even giving any hints. Holmoe seems to be less careful about giving hints.

You seem to love driving home this point, but wasn't Coach Whit telling recruits about a future Pac-10 affiliation? Whit is not Hill, but Hill is Whit's boss. Lucky/fortunate for them both that Scott had to resort to Plan B.

Creek, analogies like that are meant to be hyperbolic. That's the whole point. In the final judgment of history I am quite confident that Douglas MacArthur will outshine Chris Hill.

If you go back and read my post, I was explicitly referring to the criticism of Hill based on his stammering during the news conference. That's all.
