Berry Tramel: Will OU look foolish or stately?
It appears that both Larry Scott and David Boren overplayed their hand. The Pac-12 pulled the rug out from under the Sooners and Cowboys, some eight hours after my story that OU had set parameters for remaining in the conference. So for now, it’s back to the Big 12 for the Sooners. At least for now.
Scott, the Pac-12 commissioner, gave OU assurances that it would be invited to the Pac-12, with or without Texas. Boren, the OU president, ran with that information. But it appears that the Pac-12 invite for just OU and OSU was not so solid — either because of fatigue at the process or because the Pac presidents didn’t want to add just those two — and that Scott had to inform the Sooners that his welcome mat was a little premature. Leaving Boren to try to save face.
