Don't believe it then. It doesn't hurt my feelings one cotton pickin' bit.Originally posted by Jennerstein View PostI don't believe this for one second. If anything, the Utah game should have shown BYU the vulnerability of being independent. Don't play well, and you are immediately irrelevant. Your deal with ESPN is worth nothing if the whole country gets to observe you have a bad football team.
I think Tom Holmoe knows this and the stonewalling is a negotiation tactic. With the state of the team at the moment, BYU can't afford to have 2 or 3 seasons of mediocre play without jepoardizing any future opportunities with the mothership. Going to the Big 12 is insurance against our coaches (specifically Doman). Additionally, I believe ESPN will push BYU towards the Big 12 as the current deal doesn't look so hot now. The Utah game might have been a blessing in disguise.
It is coming from the "other" side but I believe it 100%. I haven't called Holmoe (what's the point?!) but I can believe that BYU officials will cut off their nose to spite their face in the misguided view that they can be ND.
LES will be a ghost town in 5 years if they pass this up.

For me, continued faith would also require some leaks about *why* BYU turned down the B12. If it was because of unreasonable demands by Texas and OU, fine. If not, I'm not happy no matter the schedule.
I realize that's not how BYU works, but they need to start making some exceptions.
Originally posted by byu71 View PostWe will never know how the process worked in how this thing went down.
I flat out guarantee you if we don't join, there will be some "rally the troups" statement about independence and the "faithful" will just have to believe the "leaders" are doing the right thing. Trust them with the "you will be very pleased with the great things we have going on". Of course they then expect everyone to rely on that great characteristic all mormons have, an abundance of faith in their leaders.
If they turn down a BIG12 bid and if they don't announce a block buster type home schedule in the next couple of months, I am out of faith. You have to remember how long I have been around listening to the "trust us" bull shit.
If I posted this on CB I would get the "don't let the door hit you in the butt" comment and the "good, I will get to move up in the seating" comment. They and any one else on this board have good reason to say that if I am the only one who feels this way. My contribution to the CC is like a drop in the ocean. I do know a few though whose drops are much bigger. They feel like I do. Whether they really would act on what they say, who knows.I think, perhaps, the only person who hates BYU fans more than ute fans hate BYU fans, is Bronco Mendenhall.

What are the optics of BYU so eagerly standing on the doorstep ringing the doorbell the morning after that public OU-TX debacle? Everyone needs to give this some time.Originally posted by CougarmandiasToo right.
I don't want BYU to throw this opportunity away, but I want the powers that be to negotiate to make sure its a real opportunity, not just a chance to be rolled by Texas and OU.
I'd be holding out for direct school-to-school guarantees or at minimum a 5-year commitment at higher penalty rates and if trying to get those kinds of deals ends up queering the deal I'd be sad but not angry at BYU.
BYU isn't a top power but its not negligible and it deserves some kind of minimum guarantees that its not joining a sinking ship.Give 'em Hell, Cougars!!!
For all this His anger is not turned away, but His hand is stretched out still.

if I'm Cecil S., I join the Big XII as a football member only, and keep the other sports in the WCC. I'd ask the Big XII to guarantee that the other sports join the Big XII in a year or two, once the volatility has settled.
In that scenario you keep your commitment to the WCC, and if the Big XII implodes, you simply move back to Independence in football. Your also in a prime situation should the remnants of the Big XII and Big East merge.

OU has a tremendous amount egg on their face, IMHO, over all of this lately...
(1) From what I read somewhere OU was the ones that actually recommended Dan Beebe as the Big 12 commissioner. Now they want him out. I don't disagree that Beebe needs to go but for losing aTm to the SEC and not because OU thinks he is a longhorn tool.
(2) Last year both OU and A&M wanted a greater revenue than the other schools. Now it is all about revenue sharing according to OU.
(3) They granted their president, Boren, the power to seek another conference. At the same time they talk about stabilizing the conference.
(4) It was very public knowledge that UT was working on their own network. OU was also (and still is) working on their own network. Now given that UT hit a home run with their network OU has a problem with UT's network.
(5) During all the talk about OU/OSU/TT/UT going to the Pac 12 Stoops is talking it up without any regard to what the student-athletes think about this. Brown, on the other hand, expresses a lot of concern about the student-athletes when he is asked about going to the pac-whatever in his press conferences.
(6) OU complains about UT showing high school games on the LHN. The LHN backed down on doing in less than 36 hours and OU is still bitching about this.
(7) I read somewhere that OU is now bitching about putting conference match ups on the LHN. What OU didn't mention was that KU agreed to be on the LHN and is getting money to do it. If OU has a problem they should be talking to KU.
(8) OU's president has proven to everyone that he is a dork with his press releases.
It seems that OU will be taking aTm's place in the Big 12."If there is one thing I am, it's always right." -Ted Nugent.

So, is Beebe out already? Do they need to replace him, or at least assign an interim Commish? Shouldn't that be resolved first before any expansion talk can happen?Originally posted by Uncle Ted View PostOU has a tremendous amount egg on their face, IMHO, over all of this lately...

OU has a career politician for it's President. Most Presidents of Universities don't relate to the real world as it is, but one with his background certainly lives in another world.Originally posted by Uncle Ted View PostOU has a tremendous amount egg on their face, IMHO, over all of this lately...

Sounds to me like the Big 12 is till working through OU's demands. This would certainly put expansion on hold until resolved.OU AD: "Reforms (Boren) has been discussing w/presidents in conference very important to future stability & strength of Big 12.”Give 'em Hell, Cougars!!!

Im not who determines whether a law school is repectable or not. Perfectly adeqaute is a good descriptor (but I dont think that law school determibes how good a lawyer a grad will be). I just hate it when people attach special meaning to a school that is scarcely distinguishable from 40 others (mine included).Originally posted by KillerDog View PostI knew I didn't like you.Jesus wants me for a sunbeam.
