Let's see.....the big 12 with 456 holes in the boat, or the freaking SEC. So we finally know what's been bugging Oklahoma, and probably everybody else, but Oklahoma is the only one Texas will listen too. The question for Texas is, they're starting to look like a really awesome conference killer... who would want that? They better be trying to save the crap out of the Big 12 and concede like they never have, or face all sorts of conceding just to get into another conference to save face. Their options feel a little limited in my mind. I hope the Big 12 survives, even without BYU right now... how does the saying go: "What doesn't kill you, makes you stronger."

To be perfectly fair, Utah is just as good of a school as five of the old Pac 10 schools. I'm not sure where Oklahoma State falls, but I would imagine that Utah is a better school than that. If you're talking about Oregon State, Utah is also better than them. I just think Cal and Stanford's demands for academic purity is kind of a joke when they had WSU, OSU and Arizona State in their midst. I think the only major conference that has any kind of claim to real academic excellence from top to bottom is/was the Big 10. Nebraska abrogated that somewhat, but not much.Originally posted by LiveCoug View PostThat wasn't meant as any sort of smack. It was an honest question. I know SU thinks Utah is the bee's knees but is Utah that much better than OSU? Why is it so bad to be compared to OSU?Part of it is based on academic grounds. Among major conferences, the Pac-10 is the best academically, largely because of Stanford, Cal and UCLA. “Colorado is on a par with Oregon,” he said. “Utah isn’t even in the picture.”

I think SU's point is that having a decent ("respected" was his word - top 40 or 50) law school is a point in Utah's favor, as opposed to a school that doesn't even have a law school, like Oklahoma State. No, WSU and Oregon State don't have law schools either, but that's no reason to add more schools without one.Originally posted by Green Monstah View PostWith all apologies to the fine attorneys on this board who graduated from law school at the U, stop using your law school at a sounding board for your academic excellence. Lot's of good attorneys come out of the U, but neither Utah or BYU are anything to write home about in the law school department (Disclosure: Neither is my law school, and it ranks about 20 spots ahead of BYU and the U).
Oklahoma State does have a medical school, so that's a point in its favor.“There is a great deal of difference in believing something still, and believing it again.”

I think Texas Tech was the bigger concern academically. When a true genius appears, you can know him by this sign: that all the dunces are in a confederacy against him.

So I decided to read Bob Fescoe's twitter (http://twitter.com/#!/bobfescoe)... that thing is a roller-coaster of rumors, and now all I wanna do is sit in a corner and eat cottage cheese while I wait for the sky to fall. I wish I didn't have so much emotionally invested in BYU, so that I could quit reading this crap.

Just heard mizzu to sec on ESPN radio, so I would say that is probably known now.Originally posted by LiveCoug View PostOr, nobody knows what the hell is going on."The first thing I learned upon becoming a head coach after fifteen years as an assistant was the enormous difference between making a suggestion and making a decision."

Yeah, they are showing it on the bottom line on ESPN right now. But some conflicting info:Originally posted by Jarid in Cedar View PostJust heard mizzu to sec on ESPN radio, so I would say that is probably known now.
"Missouri informally agrees to join SEC." "SEC denies that it has extended offer to Missouri."
The Big 12 schools sit around posturing while their conference gets picked apart. Idiots. Tomorrow we will probably hear that Kansas is going to the Big Ten or ACC.

Yeah, this.
If I was Kansas I'd accept that ACC offer ASAP.
Dumb dumbs.Give 'em Hell, Cougars!!!
For all this His anger is not turned away, but His hand is stretched out still.
Not long ago an obituary appeared in the Salt Lake Tribune that said the recently departed had "died doing what he enjoyed most—watching BYU lose."

Don't know if this New York Times article was posted:http://www.nytimes.com/2011/09/21/sp...ml?_r=1&src=tp
Man this is strange, Oklahoma trying to cool the fire and the Big East might grab Navy and Air Force? The world has gone crazy. The Big 12’s maneuvering was monitored with considerable interest by Big East Conference officials, who met Tuesday night in New York. The meeting included the presidents and athletic directors of the seven remaining Big East football colleges, including Texas Christian, which will join in 2012. The meeting was described as an informational session to discuss the league’s future and gauge the commitment of the football colleges.
A hot topic at the meeting was expected to be the so-called “leftover” Big 12 programs, like Kansas, Kansas State, Baylor and Iowa State, and their possible merger with Big East colleges. But with Oklahoma now hinting that the chaotic Big 12 situation may stabilize, picking up those programs appear less likely.
The Big East seems more likely to try to rebuild itself through the addition of football programs. Navy, Air Force, Temple, Central Florida, East Carolina (which has formally applied for membership), Memphis and Houston are the most plausible candidates.
