Tomorrow's news cycle is already spoken for! Tomorrow people everywhere are going to be talking INCESSANTLY about the miraculous jobs stimulus program that President Obama proposes tonight. We will be saying His name in hushed reverant tones. With a long "aaaaah" on the end. Say it with me - "Oh-ba-maaaaaaaah"Originally posted by ERCougar View PostWhy do you say one day off? From ESPN's perspective, tomorrow makes more sense than Saturday. Get people talking about the news for a day before the BYU-UT game.
Or not.
Tomorrow sounds like a good time for a Big 12 announcement...

Wow, that was ridiculous. ESPN pushing Texas to PAC12? So that Texas games are mostly on Fox? Sure.Originally posted by Gaffords View Post

I've always been on board with a Big12 invite. BYU very well announce this weekend that it is going to the Big 12. I was just pointing out how much that tweet lacks any sort of credibility.Originally posted by byu71 View PostDo you still think BYU would or and should, turn down an invite from an intact BIG12?

That's how I read it as well.Originally posted by Paperback Writer View PostI don't think the Aggies expected to leave the Big 12 without financial penalties. I remember reading that the Big 12 already stopped writing checks to Texas A&M. Most probably already know this, but in the event some don't, the Big 12 doesn't need to sue A&M or seek damagess for exit fees. The revenue for current contracts for games already played goes directly to the Big 12. So all the conference needs to do is to not forward that revenue to Texas A&M; so it will be Texas A&M who will have to sue the Big 12 if it thinks something is unjust.
I think the "consideration" being referred to is for other Big 12 member institutions not "consideration" in a financial sense. In other words, A&M shouldn't expect Big 12 institutions not to sue the Aggies if TV contracts were ammended or if the conference falls aparts and Baylor and others suffer financial damages as a result. I doubt Dan Beebe can go back to FoxSports and ESPN after A&M leaves and get the same deal he did after Colorado and Nebraska left. Perhaps adding BYU and spreading A&M's share of the revenue to other Big 12 schools can mitigate it somewhat but there still may be lost revenue. After reading this, perhpas the "consideration" is financial after all. But it's not A&M expecting to continue to get it's share of revenue after announcing its intent to leave the Big 12. It's lost revenue after adding BYU and allocating A&M's exit fees because the networks have renegotiated the TV contracts. Just my $0.02
There could still be negative impacts to revenue of the remaining Big 12 members after A&M's departure. Everyone is refusing to give up the right to sue should those negative impacts materialize.

Tom Osborne will say whatever Jim Delany wants him to say. There will probably be a hidden ear plug in Osborne's ear while Delany whispers into a microphone just to make sure 'ol Tom gets it right.Originally posted by Uncle Ted View PostI am guessing the corn huskers will have something to say about this. Where the heck is PBW?
Obviously, the Big Ten and Nebraska would welcome Notre Dame. The only drawback will be that it will be a little harder for Husker fans to take over Notre Dame's stadium again. That probably only works once in a generation in South Bend (unlike Boulder).
As far as Texas in the Big Ten, I think Nebraska will be OK with it for the following reasons:
1) Jim Delany would make sure of it.
2) Nebraska does not expect to run a conference it just joined unlike another school 15 years ago.
3) The Big Ten would have tOSU, Michigan, Penn St., Nebraska, and Notre Dame to balance Texas' interests. Also, the Big Ten prides itself in being a conference of equals.
4) Texas prep recruiting. Nebraska would actually want to be in the same division as Texas in order to play in Austin every other year.
5) Try to rectify the scoreboard imbalance from the Big 12. In spite of the 1-9 record against the Longhorns, all but one of those losses was a close game. I know it's "loser talk" but the Gods of College Football might steer fate in a different direction. After all, "Sooner Magic" didn't last forever.“Not the victory but the action. Not the goal but the game. In the deed the glory.”

I think Bronco has said as much. He wants to retire early while he's still young so he can 'pursue other things' and maybe spend some time with his family.Originally posted by byu71 View PostLOL, do you think he could do more good for the church as a Mission President somewhere than as the head coach winning games and giving firesides?
That's like saying Jimmer would have done more good as a missionary in Sweden than playing the straight four years.
You probably didn't mean that and I misunderstood, sorry.
IMO, when an active LDS guy in his mid-40's, who's at the top of his game and has enough money that he'd never have to work again if he chose not to, says he'd like to "pursue other things," he's speaking in Mormon-Speak saying that he's considering a mission.
When he's obviously a strong leader of young men, understands the Church bureaucracy, and is currently employed by the Church (so they know there are no skelletons in his closet), it makes it even more likely. I would be REALLY surprised if Bronco doesn't serve as a Mission President in the next 5-10 years.

One of the grandest benefits of the enlightenment was the realization that our moral sense must be based on the welfare of living individuals, not on their immortal souls. Honest and passionate folks can strongly disagree regarding spiritual matters, so it's imperative that we not allow such considerations to infringe on the real happiness of real people.

If this is true then the aggies are getting pretty deperate...
Speculation late Wednesday also centered on A&M perhaps offering the SEC to cover any potential litigation costs, although a school official declined to discuss legal strategy."If there is one thing I am, it's always right." -Ted Nugent.

That seems like a logical, rather than a desperation, move. The potential lawsuit is unlikely to succeed and if aTm wants in, why not indemnify the SEC?Originally posted by Uncle Ted View Post

Indemnification doesn't always indicate desperation. It may indicate that they believe the potential claims against A&M/SEC are meritless, and thus they are willing to foot the cost of fighting them. It may also indicate that they feel Baylor and the other B12 schools are bluffing, and won't really sue because they won't suffer any damages by A&M leaving.Originally posted by Uncle Ted View PostPrepare to put mustard on those words, for you will soon be consuming them, along with this slice of humble pie that comes direct from the oven of shame set at gas mark “egg on your face”! -- Moss
