  • I'm kind of enjoying my newfound alliance with BYU fans. We all want OU and UT to stay in the Big 12 so that it can be stable and BYU then to get into a stable Big 12. We're all on the same page. Someone strike up "Kum-ba-yah!"

I agree the list is even shittier than the list put out by the University of Sri Lanka that has Arizona State and Utah ranked higher than Cal Tech and some of the Ivys.

But where are getting this stuff about Utah being anything close to UW? UW supposedly has a top 10 research med school. Utah's is couple spots ahead of South Carolina's (thus substantiating my theory about the Cocks and Utes being educationally linked). I need to spend some time around UW's campus to determine where you're getting the linkage. Are there a lot of muffin tops and guys with bad facial hair that reminds you of the Utah student body? Do they have buildings that remind you of something you'd find on a Cal State campus?

Mark Grace can you comment on this? Has my imagination overrated UW?
Part of it is based on academic grounds. Among major conferences, the Pac-10 is the best academically, largely because of Stanford, Cal and UCLA. “Colorado is on a par with Oregon,” he said. “Utah isn’t even in the picture.”

Now LA is trying to run me off. Not so easy, LA. I will not go!
        Give 'em Hell, Cougars!!!

For all this His anger is not turned away, but His hand is stretched out still.

Not long ago an obituary appeared in the Salt Lake Tribune that said the recently departed had "died doing what he enjoyed most—watching BYU lose."

What's truly sad is during this year's trying time he has no equal, no one has stepped up. His MVP legacy will therefore become legendary.

            • If the Big 12 folds, that's it... whole new ballgame for all of college football.

              BCS will become irrelevant.

The PAC and SEC will grow to 16 teams each, The B1G will take it's pick of what it wants from what's left of the Big 12 and Big East and ACC, what's left of the Big East and ACC will merge.

We will have super-conferences. Each one will play a conference championship before the winners play each other in a playoff for a National Championship.

The TV's will have what they want (college playoffs), but at the expense of many conventional college football regions, rivalries, and traditions.

May not be what everyone bargained for... but it will make lots of money.

I personally hope it doesn't happen yet.

I don't know if you're just trolling, but no one here has claimed any such thing. I said they were both flagship universities of their respective state systems of higher education. Someone misinterpreted that to mean I was suggesting there was equivalency between the two. My response:

                Nothing more has been said.

I like to think Utah is a rising university, and there's plenty of data supporting that view. PAC-12 membership will help, as is discussed here. But we don't need to spend any more time bashing the U's academic strength. Utah boosters know we have a ways to go, and you don't need to prove anything.

Frankly, OK’s resurrecting its fascination with going to California is bothersome. Someone tell them it isn’t the 30s. But I guess old habits are hard to break.

I would seriously question the long-term viability of a Pac 16 of any kind. I think 16 are too many teams, unless you create two separate divisions, which then defeats the purpose one conference. I think that pod-system would be a disaster, especially for the original members of the Pac 8. Bringing in four teams from two time zones away compounds the problems. TXTech and Washington? Cal/Stanford and OKST/TXTech? Plus, is TX really going to pass on those $300 million?

Back to the Big 12, I still question its stability even if TX and OK stay home. What happens next year? How committed is MO? That isn’t the greatest place for BYU to land.

Where is? Indy and WCC? I sure hope not... I say it's better to get your foot in the door and hope for the best.
