that being said I cant imagine arizona decision maker wanting games in texas and oklahoma versus california and the northwest. They have had 40 years in that conference.Originally posted by Babs View PostBear in mind that one of the Arizona schools is run by a Stoops."Be a philosopher. A man can compromise to gain a point. I'm surprised you guys are so sure the pac16 would vote against.Originally posted by All-American View PostIt's not that I don't believe you. I think you are accurately portraying what you have been told. It's just that what you are telling us is unbelievable. It's nothing personal; Tom Holmoe himself could tell me that this was in the works, and I don't think I'd believe it until I saw it myself.

Not that I'm predicting this, but the fact that a unanimous vote is no longer required (as it was in the Pac-10) for expansion, makes it conceivable that BYU could get the votes to be added as team 16 despite Cal/Stanford's blacklisting.Originally posted by Mormon Red Death View Postlooking at the pac-12 bylaws:
if the pac-8 members want it they have the votes as I cant imagine the arizona or mountain schools voting for it.

I learned that BYU actually had decent support in the PAC 10 last expansion go 'round. Cal And Stanford derailed things.Originally posted by shoganai View PostNot that I'm predicting this, but the fact that a unanimous vote is no longer required (as it was in the Pac-10) for expansion, makes it conceivable that BYU could get the votes to be added as team 16 despite Cal/Stanford's blacklisting.
The dynamic is different now.

Arizona, Arizona State, USC, and UCLA were always definite 'Yes' votes for BYU, going back as far as you want to go.Originally posted by Shaka View PostI learned that BYU actually had decent support in the PAC 10 last expansion go 'round. Cal And Stanford derailed things.

The only definite 'No' votes have always been in the bay area. The northwestern schools have been a toss up depending on the year.

Yeah, but 3/4 means 9 schools. Assuming Cal/Stanford are a no, even if Utah does us a solid and votes us in, you have to get 2/3 of the Arizona schools and Colorado to sign on. And that's assuming the rest of the PAC8 are on board. I just don't see it.Originally posted by shoganai View PostNot that I'm predicting this, but the fact that a unanimous vote is no longer required (as it was in the Pac-10) for expansion, makes it conceivable that BYU could get the votes to be added as team 16 despite Cal/Stanford's blacklisting.

Now you're being silly. As already pointed out, Utah is a commuter school. The vast majority of its alumni are still in the SL valley. Stop pretending like having 250 more fans at a game in Pullman will make all the difference.Originally posted by Mormon Red Death View PostApparently some phantom ranking by fans is more important to us than actually having road games where we have larger number of alumni. Yeah that is solid theory you have there.Prepare to put mustard on those words, for you will soon be consuming them, along with this slice of humble pie that comes direct from the oven of shame set at gas mark “egg on your face”! -- Moss
There's three rules that I live by: never get less than twelve hours sleep; never play cards with a guy who's got the same first name as a city; and never go near a lady's got a tattoo of a dagger on her body. Now you stick to that, everything else is cream cheese. --Coach Finstock

Utah is the easiest 'Yes' vote BYU has ever had in that conference. They would not only vote yes, but would do everything they could to lobby for BYU behind the scenes. Take that to the bank.Originally posted by Viking View PostCal, Stan and Utah could vote no and BYU would still have 75% affirmative vote.
BYU is in.
I still don't think it would be enough, however.
