I severely doubt that the utefans poster heard Patrick Kinahan in the right context/tone of sarcasm. Not a single other person on cougarboard/CUF/utefans hearing the same thing or 1320 not making a big deal out of it seems to say its BS/heard wrong.

Maybe because your league is becoming a 2 pony show? Not that BYU is necessarily a third pony, but sooner or later its not going to make sense to have a conference with Texas and OU kicking the crap out of ISU, KU, KSU and Baylor every year.Originally posted by Mormon Red Death View PostIf TAMU Leaves why would the Big 12 Add another team? Because if the conference gets too small that BCS AQ game might go to the SEC as well.Originally posted by Mormon Red Death View PostIf TAMU Leaves why would the Big 12 Add another team? Just considering football, I think I prefer to remain independent. I reserve the right to change my mind if the schedules and BCS access don't improve in the next few years. However, I think BYU should take a Big 12 invite* because basketball and track deserve a better home.
*I don't think a Big 12 invite is likely in the foreseeable future.

And they are adding TCU and apparently invited BYU as well when the big ten and PAC 10 expanded.Originally posted by Mormon Red Death View Post?? The big east has had fewer teams for most of the BCS existence."If there is one thing I am, it's always right." -Ted Nugent.

Because they want to get to 12 for the championship game. Not because they want 10 teams. Once TCU is in the conference lo and behold they have 9 teams the optimal amount if you can't have 12. BTW do you have a link that they offered byu and byu rejected?Originally posted by Uncle Ted View PostAnd they are adding TCU and apparently invited BYU as well when the big ten and PAC 10 expanded."Be a philosopher. In recent days a rumor has also surfaced regarding BYU potentially joining the Big East Conference. Deep Shades of Blue has learned that the conference did indeed contact BYU about becoming a football-only member, but that the proposal was turned down by the BYU administration.

I don't think there was any official offer and it never got past the "sniffing" stage. The point is that the Big East saw they needed to expand and went all the way to Fort Worth to do it.Originally posted by Mormon Red Death View PostI am not doubting just curious is their another source beside a random fan blog? It kind of worked for the old Big 8 with OU and Nebraska dominating the conference. Also, Texas hasn't defeated KSU since 2003 and the Wildcats are 5-2 against the Longhorns in the Big 12. But I agree, it will be a two horse show.Originally posted by falafel View PostMaybe because your league is becoming a 2 pony show? The reason the Big 12 might need BYU is for market share and TV money. That is why the SWC was unsustainable and why the four Texas schools joined the Big 8 because the Big 8 needed to expand market share prior to renewing their TV deal.
What dumb@ss Dan Beebe needs to understand is that the Big 12 will remain unstable until the conference has its own network. Which means the Big 12 will remain unstable as long as the Longhorn Network remains exclusive to UT. If Texas wants to play in a conference as opposed to being independent, the Longhorns will support other schools in making the upgrades to partake in a Big 12 network and BYU will be much better off in such a conference. If Texas wants to continue to exploit the advantages it has over the rest of the Big 12 then the conference most likely won't persevere and Texas will become an independent and BYU will be better off remaining independent.
I have a hunch that all the rumors out of College Station about joining the SEC is an Aggie maneuver to get some Longhorn concessions on a conference network.“Not the victory but the action. Not the goal but the game. In the deed the glory.”

The details about the longhorn network contract:
The deal continues whether or not UT stays in the Big 12. The goal is to have the channel air at least two UT football games per year (and 200+ live sporting events). UT needs to make a best effort to get TV rights to its away games as well as Texas high school football championships. UT can't contribute to any future Big 12 channel. If ESPN clears $295M in profit then UT gets to keep 70% of the subsequent profits.

Those are some interesting contract terms. I was thinking more along the lines that the Longhorn network expands to include the rest of the Big 12 rather than a competing network. Such a deal would help with the content.Originally posted by Uncle Ted View PostThe details about the longhorn network contract:

This will be interesting to watch. There's no way other Big 12 members allow Longhorn away games in any sport to be televised on the LHN. I really doubt that other schools allow any Big 12 football game to air on the LHN. Showing Texas high school football games has already been put on hold.
In my view, it seems the LHN may need the rest of the Big 12 almost as much as the Big 12 needs a conference network (or more accurately the LHN to include other Big 12 schools). Perhaps the LHN will only expand to those programs who actually have any leverage on UT (that would be OU and aTm) or have political clout (Tech). That would help with the content and the rest of the schools could do little about it unless the Big Ten opted to expand again.“Not the victory but the action. Not the goal but the game. In the deed the glory.”
