http://www.aztecmesa.proboards.com/i...ay&thread=9231That seems like the kind of comment that would be made to irk the likes of BYU. Those sumbitches!Asked if the Big 12 , now down to 10 members, had expressed interest in SDSU, Weber said, “I can’t talk about that.”
He did say no other conferences have approached SDSU about membership.
Edit: Also, it appears that Borg spends more time over there than he does here.

sounds like a stupid comment. Either he lied about no other conferences contacting them , or he lied about not being able to talk about the B12 contacting them.Originally posted by falafel View PostThat seems like the kind of comment that would be made to irk the likes of BYU. He doesn't have to have lied about either. He could simply say no one else has contacted him, and at the same time say that he can't talk about the B12 contacting him (because it hasn't - therefore he can't talk about it).Originally posted by pellegrino View Postsounds like a stupid comment. I read that. Both "SDSU and UNLV will be much better at football in the next decade." I've been hearing that for about a decade already.Originally posted by LiveCoug View Postsome Aztecmesaites saying that SDSU and UNLV would be a great combo for the Big 12....
Someone mentions BYU and they are aghast at the thought. Good times.Ain't it like most people, I'm no different. We love to talk on things we don't know about.

I'm still not sure what the lie is. That other conferences DID talk to SDSU? Or that he CAN talk about whether the B12 contacted him?Originally posted by pellegrino View Postbetter a slanderer than a liar. He lied.Ain't it like most people, I'm no different. As a long time observers of the Big 8 and then Big 12, here's how I think it played out.Originally posted by LA Coug View Postwas BYU to the Big12 all made up by Utah fans who wanted to torture and laugh at BYU fans?
Big Ten and Pac-10 needed to expand in order to play a CCG.
Big Ten's first choice is Notre Dame but will the Irish accept?
Colorado has long wanted to leave the Big 12 so the Buffs are the PAC-10's first choice and they will accept. Utah is a likely second choice.
If Notre Dame joins the Big Ten, BYU will be offered Colorado's spot in the Big 12 and most everyone will be happy. Big Ten is at 12 teams and get their first choice. PAC-10 is at 12 teams and get their top choices. Big 12 is at 12 teams and more than happy to replace Colorado with BYU.
But Notre Dame stays independent. Missouri makes it's case for Big Ten inclusion. This makes Nebraska nervous since 2 of the top 3 teams when it comes to football and market share are lost from the Big 12 North with Colorado to the PAC-10 and Missouri to the Big Ten. Nebraska begins talks with the Big Ten and joins; Missouri declares its allegiance to the Big 12.
The problem is that there is no partner for BYU to take with them into the Big 12.“Not the victory but the action. Not the goal but the game. In the deed the glory.”

Sounds like a reasonable summary, although I don't know anything about the Big 12 and BYU. One factoid I can add is that Utah and Colorado went to Larry Scott (Utah was the instigator) first. Those discussions went well, but with no really firm promises made. Then Scott got the grand idea of raiding Texas and others from the Big 12. Great confusion followed. That fizzled, but Colorado (a bigger and better choice than Utah) was in the PAC even before all the hubbub. So Utah, waiting and hoping, then got the nod for the 12th slot. We were the last kid chosen for the stickball game, but happy to be there. I think BYU will be in the Big 12 sooner or later.Originally posted by Paperback Writer View PostAs a long time observers of the Big 8 and then Big 12, here's how I think it played out.
