The league has had discussions with and about Cincinnati and Memphis for months, in addition to Houston, UConn, BYU and others.
This guy's out to lunch. They've had discussions with BYU for months?

Duke at 53 only works if some of the basketball success also counts for football.
I have a hard time believing that most of the PAC-X athletic departments require rather significant subsidies to stay afloat. No PAC-X public schools in the top 10 (USC would be there if they were included). The rankings are: Oregon (#21), Washington (#23), UCLA (#25), Arizona (#35), Cal (#37), ASU (#38), CU (#50), OSU (#51), Utah (#52), Wazzou (#53). Only 4 of those teams take LESS than 10% of their revenue as a subsidy. ASU takes 22.95% ($19.4 million), CU takes 18.0% ($12.2 million), Utah takes 14.09% ($8.8 million), Wazzou takes 11.3% ($6.1 million), OSU takes 10.7% ($6.9 million), Arizona takes 10.2% ($9.0 million). Oregon is an outlier in the PAC-X.

Compare to the Big 12: Two schools in the top 10 of college revenue, Texas (#2) and OU (#8). The rest of the public schools in the conference are as follows: OSU (#26), KU (#28), WVU (#31), Tech (#41), KSU (#46), and ISU (#47). Additionally, NO public school in the Big 12 takes more than 10% of their revenue as a subsidy. OSU takes 8.13% ($7.8 million), Tech takes 5.33% ($4.26 million), and the rest of the conference is under 5%. Maybe Oregon would like to join the Big 12 with BYU.

Since Red Legger doesn't grace us with his presence very often lately, I'll just mention that Jayhawk football has had its moments. The AP poll goes back to 1936 so it would include seasons when KU had a player by the name of Gale Sayers.

Oklahoma wouldn't want another team that could win the league regularly, they grew tired of Nebraska sharing the top with them so they got them to move on. Now who is there to stop the Sooners?

I previously commented about my support for the University of Houston's desire to join the Big 12. For many of the same reasons, I also support the inclusion of SMU.
