As a fan of the University of Kansas Football Club (a power conference club), I'd be fine w/ a gimmicky marketing tool that worked. I'm betting BarrySwitzer/PhilNight would agree.Originally posted by Omaha 680 View PostIt's a gimmicky marketing tool. Power conferences shouldn't need gimmicky marketing. #onetruechampion

That must be tough, being associated with anything related to KU football. Props to you for sticking with it through thick and thicker.Originally posted by Red Legger View PostAs a fan of the University of Kansas Football Club (a power conference club), I'd be fine w/ a gimmicky marketing tool that worked. Why? The Jayhawkers are for the most part good kids. Most of them graduate from the University. Guys like MichaelCumming/JamesSimms/BenHeeney are really tough hombres who strap it on against a top 5 schedule year after year. They never back off even though they are massively understaffed. The University provides them w/ top notched facilities and every opportunity to compete. Every 10 years or so they go out and get a ten win season against the big dogs. Til then you just enjoy fall afternoons in glorious Memorial Stadium on our gorgeous campus watching Big12 football w/ the other 30000 IronArses.Originally posted by lambdacoug View PostThat must be tough, being associated with anything related to KU football. If by every ten years or so you mean twice in the last 100 years then you are right and I see your point.Originally posted by Red Legger View PostWhy? The Jayhawkers are for the most part good kids. Here's hoping KU has another 2007 or 1995 season sometime soon. If/when the Big 12 implodes, I hope KU finds a place in the B1G West division.Originally posted by Red Legger View PostWhy? The BIG doesn't have much appeal to KU. Screws KSuck and leaves us as an add-on in tOSU/Michigan's conference. Not a pleasant place to be. Fixing the Big12 is what KU needs. To fix the Big12, we need to bring BYU into the Big12, get back to 12 and restart divisional play. If that is done, conference realignment pretty much ends w/ the ACC being the weakest of the power 5 due to their over-expansion and lack of football interest north of South Carolina.Originally posted by Paperback Writer View PostHere's hoping KU has another 2007 or 1995 season sometime soon. 40s-Orange Bowl in 1947.Originally posted by wapiti View PostIf by every ten years or so you mean twice in the last 100 years then you are right and I see your point.
50s-Johnnie Hadl, Gayle Sayers and Curtis McClinton in the late 50s/early 60s.
60s-Orange Bowl w/ Johnnie Riggo in 67.
70s-Kicking OU's arse and ending the Gooners win streak w/ NolanCromwell in 75.
90s-Mason kicking UCLA's arse in 1995 and snagging a top 10 finish.
00-PhatBasTurd kicking VaTech's arse in the 08 Orange Bowl and another top 10 finish.
About once per decade. Right?
Okay, we had some probation from CoachFam's era and missed out on any big seasons in the 1980s. But, in general, about once per decade the Jayhawkers will do some damage. They almost always will play a top 10 schedule. By my count, I've personally watched 6 different Hesiman Trophy winners in Memorial Stadium since the early 80s. The club has played two top 10 programs (OU/UNL) greater than 100 times each. Sure we could of made a living kicking UNM's arse decade after decade like BYU. We live, though, in a tough neighborhood. And following this bunch of farm boys and Tejas wannabees through the rough and tumble Big12 is kinda fun w/ the proper perspective.

I grew up in LA and was alert during the LA Rams reign of terror, you can give me "Nolan Cromwell" references to your hearts content! I also still get misty eyed when I watch "Running Brave!" That Billy Mills guy was one hell of a three sport athlete with his XC, Track and "you can shove the scholarship up your ass with a hot poker" hoops!Originally posted by Red Legger View Post40s-Orange Bowl in 1947.

Let the record state this has been my opinion and prediction all along. I would even make a reference to my favorite #9 but I am still reeling in misery because of how his number retirement night turned out. Here's a submission for KU's 1980s highlight. BYU has KU to thank for playing a part in their 1984 national title. That year, KU upset OU in Lawrence. If that doesn't happen, OU goes into the Orange Bowl with a 10-0-1 record against Washington (10-1) and many in the media would have billed that as a national title game despite BYU being undefeated. The Huskies beating an undefeated Sooners team in Miami might have been enough to get them voted #1.Originally posted by Red Legger View Post40s-Orange Bowl in 1947.
