In regards to the smurf turf: I am waiting to hear what our new Big 12 overlords think before I develop an opinion on the matter.

If you're looking at playing area I came up with 16.667%.

            (20 yards End Zone)/(120 yard total field) = 16.67%

But you need both colors to make it checkered. So 16.67/2=8%

I was thinking Tennessee. They used to do orange and white which if you consider a checkerboard pattern ridiculous then both colors count. Now, I believe the pattern doesn't extend all the way to the side lines, end lines, and goal lines. So perhaps Moliere knows the exact dimensions and that is why he is getting a lower number.

OK, "fan" is too strong. I am not a Boise hater. I have admired what they have been able to accomplish. Pretty impressive for a bunch of potato farmers.

I have also noticed that it is the long-term BSU fans that love the blue turf. You rarely see anyone else like it. DDD is right. There is a reason no other football program has tried something similar.

Sure. Clearly a DIII or JC tactic.

There's also the white stripes (yard markers, sidelines, hash marks, etc.) as well as the white yard line numbers on the field that are shared with standard fields. So if the green areas in endzones of Neyland Stadium are exempt from the ridicule percentage of Smurf Turf then the white painted areas should also be excluded. I'm more trusting of an engineering calculation than one used for an audit. There's probably some FASB technical bulletin that explains Moliere's answer.
