2011 they were 8-5. This year they were 5-7. I think most years they will be in the range of 5 - 8 wins. I think twice every 10 years they get 9-10 wins. And how often a 2008 or 2004 team comes along we will see. Since the ariz schools have been in pac ariz st has had one rosebowl visit and ariz has never gone to the rosebowl.Originally posted by New Mexican Disaster View PostI think that you would have been absent injuries the past two years.

We should see in the next few years what the P12 has really done for them.
If the talent has been upgraded as well as the depth, as the Utah fans I speak with at work/church contend, then they should start doing better.
It's unfair in some respects to talk of their immediate performance as many of the athletes on their team were recruited to play in the MWC. After five years there, we'll see better how things are going.
Obviously there's other storylines in play here as well, like the coaching staff, how the other teams are recruiting around them, the idiot coaching at USC, etc. Will donate kidney for B12 membership.

I disagree with this line of thinking for a couple of reasons:Originally posted by The_Douger View PostWe should see in the next few years what the P12 has really done for them.

1) It discredits everything they accomplished the 10 years before the Pac 12. Utah has been at a BCS level for years and it is because they have had BCS quality players and coaches.
2) The Utes had bad QB play the last two years. Teams with bad QB's get exposed. If the Utes can improve play at that single position, they could be back.
3) Improved recruiting is overrated. Did Utah lose to Colorado in 2011 because they didn't have BCS quality players?
Does that mean Utah will succeed going forward? Of course not. But the reasons for failure will not necessarily be the quality of the players. Kwhitt has problems with his offense that are 5 years in the making, a questionable OC, and no proven QB to work with. The PAC 12 has upgraded its head coaches with some very credible talent, especially in the South. I'm left to wonder whether Kwhitt is the guy to take Utah to the next level.

I'm not trying to discredit what they've done. I think they deserved the invite. Your point about the quarterback is a legitimate one. I think they miss Gary Anderson at times, and his influence was an important one and could have been helpful in making the trasition to the PAC12.Originally posted by wapiti View PostI disagree with this line of thinking for a couple of reasons:

I think ultimately Kyle Whittingham will get fired and they'll have to bring someone else in. It's not like it's getting any easier the next few years with games against Oregon and Stanford.
I think BYU would go through very similar growing pains and difficulties in a conference like the Big 12, which imo is an even tougher conference than the P12.
I thought teams like Utah and TCU would march in and start hammering some of those teams, and overall that hasn't been the case. I underestimated the makeup of the middle of the BCS conferences. Will donate kidney for B12 membership.

Once again, TCU had QB issues. The main difference between now and then for Utah and TCU is the mid-tier BCS teams can hammer you if you have an off week rather than squeaking by a Wyoming. But an off week doesn't cause TCU to go 7-6 or Utah to have a losing season. They had fundamental problems last year that would have been trouble in the MWC as well.Originally posted by The_Douger View PostI'm not trying to discredit what they've done. I like him and think he's done a pretty dang good job as AD. I do feel sorry for him, though. That poor bastard has to deal with both BYU fans and BYU Administration. I couldn't imagine.Originally posted by Green Monstah View PostI'll say this. In my very limited communication with TH, he seems like a straight shooter who cares deeply about BYU athletics.
