If BYU football died, I'd have a hard time picking another team. Probably because I hate a bunch of other teams and like to enjoy underdogs winning.
I guess I'd take ASU.

I live in Nebraska. I guess I'd just move them from #2 to #1. It makes me sad to think about, though. I love cheering for BYU.Originally posted by San Juan Sun View PostIf BYU football died, I'd have a hard time picking another team. I have a hard time envisioning a set of circumstances where BYU football would "die." BYU has never been on the forefront of college football. I'm not saying we haven't been successful in the past or developed some sort of national recognition. BYU has, for it's entire history, been locked in some second or third-tier conference where by virtue of its association, had a limited ceiling.Originally posted by San Juan Sun View PostIf BYU football died, I'd have a hard time picking another team. For the first time in the history of the program, that's behind us. BYU's ceiling is higher right now that it's ever been. The only question is whether the team can perform well enough to come close to reaching that ceiling. Given the schedules that are set up for the next two years, "all" BYU has to do is win.
I don't see a floor being independent as long as we have the ESPN contract that is lower than the super-WAC or Crowton days. It would take something of monumental proportions for BYU football to go away (and not getting into the B12 is not something of monumental proportion).

How much does the church need football? Will the church get it's university out of a corrupt system to stay free from the slimey people that make-up things like the BCS and college bowls. Don't kid yourself. BYU will drop football in a second if things start to look like it seems to be going.Originally posted by BYUMizzou View PostI have a hard time envisioning a set of circumstances where BYU football would "die." The church needs football as much as it needs high-end retail shopping space, so I think BYU football is here to stay!Originally posted by Rickomatic View PostHow much does the church need football? Haven't TH and BM both said they want to be in a BCS conference (if the BCS stays around)?

I think that BYU and the Church need football. It helps to legitamize, in the eyes of the average american male, the institutions and keeps them relevant. I think that sports is where the church and BYU feels that male members can be normal and participate like anybody across the country.Originally posted by Rickomatic View PostHow much does the church need football? There are only a handful of religious colleges that participate at the D1 level - Notre Dame, Baylor, Boston College, and BYU... (is Vanderbilt a religious school?) and the church likes the company it is keeping here. I really think the Church likes the publicity that it is receiving (post Crowton) on football and sports in general. I don't see them dropping football anytime in near or distance future. I don't think the the Big Ten, PAC-12, and SEC who play a CCG will allow the Big 12 to skate into a four-team playoff without playing one.Just look at last season; Alabama was not the SEC champ. They don't make the playoffs if it's limited to conference champs only. And upsets occur in CCGs. Just ask 1996 Nebraska or 2003 Oklahoma to name just a couple. So there is the possibility that a highly ranked team gets upset or that two highly ranked teams play in a CCG and the loser does not qualify for the playoffs while a Big 12 team makes it without playing a CCG. In college football, not losing is more important than winning.Originally posted by jay santos View PostWhy?“Not the victory but the action. Not the goal but the game. In the deed the glory.”

Yeah. I don't see round-robin as skating at all. I see playing a weak Big 12 North and lucking out with Baylor and Texas Tech for your cross divisional games while winning a conference championship game as more of a skate...Originally posted by jay santos View PostWhy?Dyslexics are teople poo...
