If BYU football died, I'd have a hard time picking another team. Probably because I hate a bunch of other teams and like to enjoy underdogs winning.
I guess I'd take ASU.

I live in Nebraska. I guess I'd just move them from #2 to #1. It makes me sad to think about, though. I have a hard time envisioning a set of circumstances where BYU football would "die." BYU has never been on the forefront of college football. I'm not saying we haven't been successful in the past or developed some sort of national recognition. For the first time in the history of the program, that's behind us. BYU's ceiling is higher right now that it's ever been. The only question is whether the team can perform well enough to come close to reaching that ceiling. Given the schedules that are set up for the next two years, "all" BYU has to do is win.
I don't see a floor being independent as long as we have the ESPN contract that is lower than the super-WAC or Crowton days. It would take something of monumental proportions for BYU football to go away (and not getting into the B12 is not something of monumental proportion).Comment

How much does the church need football? Will the church get it's university out of a corrupt system to stay free from the slimey people that make-up things like the BCS and college bowls. I think that BYU and the Church need football. It helps to legitamize, in the eyes of the average american male, the institutions and keeps them relevant. I don't think the the Big Ten, PAC-12, and SEC who play a CCG will allow the Big 12 to skate into a four-team playoff without playing one.Just look at last season; Alabama was not the SEC champ. They don't make the playoffs if it's limited to conference champs only. And upsets occur in CCGs. Just ask 1996 Nebraska or 2003 Oklahoma to name just a couple. So there is the possibility that a highly ranked team gets upset or that two highly ranked teams play in a CCG and the loser does not qualify for the playoffs while a Big 12 team makes it without playing a CCG.
