Am I the only one who finds the Big 12 less appealing for BYU now that WV has joined the conference?
My pipe dream now is that the PAC needs to go to 16 and has no where else to go but BYU. I've always preferred the PAC-10 to the BIG 12, but still got really excited about the possibility of joining the BIG 12 because BYU was a good fit.
Now that the Big 12 has moved East, BYU seems further and further out on an island in that hypothetical league.

They don't schedule up now

Like where your heads at man. I figure it would have an effect close to basketball, where you schedule up to boost your schedule a bit... which I think would happen if there was an 8 team playoff, allowing for a few open playoff spots. That would, in theory, make all the games in the season matter for the conference players that know they won't win, but still have some good wins under their belt... plus give the outsiders (like we are at the moment) a chance to schedule tough and get a shot a the championship.Originally posted by Paperback Writer View PostAlso factored in with the fear of losing a tough OOC game and being eliminated from BCS title game consideration, is the greed of major programs like Nebraska that insist on 7-home game schedules. That results in buying games that an opponent has little chance of winning and getting an that extra home game. If a playoff resulted in more high quality OOC games and an end to scheduling Idaho St., South Dakota St., or Chattanooga; I'm all in favor of it.

I didn't think of that before but I agree that a playoff could help BYU's scheduling if the Cougars stay independent. Because I think OOC scheduling and SOS will become important for those 2-3 wildcard spots in a 8 team playoff. If there is a selection committee similar to basketball, who will have the edge? A Big Ten runner-up Nebraska squad with BYU and Miami on the OOC schedule or a SEC runner-up Florida with just FSU of note on the OOC schedule. Name programs that expect to have a shot at a national championship and play in a conference that might be down will want to beef up their OOC schedule and that may play to BYU's advantage.Originally posted by PolyCougar View PostLike where your heads at man. What would be really interesting is if Utah decided to drop BYU from their schedule only to lose a wildcard playoff spot to Nebraska who did schedule BYU.“Not the victory but the action. Not the goal but the game. In the deed the glory.”

I'd prefer the B12 to the Pac. The B12 seems more like a national conference whereas the Pac seems more regional to me. I'm obviously biased living in SEC/B12/B1G country, but trying to put those biases aside, I still think the B12 is a better national platform than the Pac.Originally posted by beefytee View Post

I know the superconference discussions were all the rage 6-9 months ago, but I think 16 teams is too unwieldy and unstable for most conferences. I also think that in any conference not named the SEC, the money would be too diluted to go to that many teams. I would be shocked if the Pac expands beyond 12.

When consumers you've never met are rating your company's products in public forums with which you have no experience or influence, your company is vulnerable. In Groundswell, Josh Bernoff and Charlene Li explain how to turn this threat into an opportunity.
Agree. Baylor will join the PAC-16 when Ann Richards personally steps in in all her resurrected glory. I would think Baylor has a heavier millstone around it's neck then BYU in the eyes of Cal Berkeley and Stanford.

Greg Swaim of BigTime Sports is confirming rumors of Clemson, Florida State and BYU to the Big 12 Athletic Conference! To my fellow Cougars, I offer an early congratulations as a tweet of @gswaim is rock solid. It's been a long time coming.
