While I realize this is very slim evidence of anything, I thought Holmoe's statements in an interview in the paper this morning suggested that it might not be all over yet. This interview was taken and published in connection with USF going to play BYU in the Big MAC for the first time
the couple fo interesting staements, to me, were these:
On the pros and cons of BYU being an independent in football (the Cougars went 10-3 and beat Tulsa in the Armed Forces Bowl in their first season as an independent): "We can play whoever, wherever we want. That's a double-edged sword, though. It is hard to schedule."
On how BYU's other sports have embraced joining the WCC: "We really like the WCC. It's been everything we hoped and more. We love it. The teams are classy. They're good. The campuses are beautiful. ... Our women's soccer players thought they had died and gone to heaven."
On whether, given the changing landscape of conference affiliations, fans can plan on having BYU in the WCC for a long time: "Nobody knows. ... We've got to take care of the football program. ... It's not like it's the 800-pound gorilla in the room. We've discussed it with (WCC Commissioner) Jamie Zaninovich and other administrators."PLesa excuse the tpyos.Comment
