I almost never post, I get what I need from lurking. I lurk because I care...but now I post because I feel duty bound! When will anyone here figure out that whole mess has little to do with BCS inclusion or money. It has mostly to do with exposure. And like it or not, our deal with ESPN has given that to us. The BOT does NOT want to give that up. Plain and simple. That is where we are coming from in any negotiation. Think about it. The BOT loves it when we are on TV and the announcers mention the number of missionaries or married men we have on the team 10x more that what the score is. Thus it is and thus it always will be.

Having said that, do I want BYU in the B12? Of course. Will I turn in my fan card and start cheering for the Utes if we don't? HELL NO!! Why would I cheer for a team that has not only openly ridicules my school and what WE stand for as a university at every chance they get, and also believes that their inclusion into a BCS conference is somehow proof of their superiority? They make me sick! Basically bending over to those arrogant, money grubbing ass holes for a piece of the proverbial BCS pie. Whores!! Why in the world would I root for them? So, we're out of the B12 and the BCS picture. Do any of you believe that even given inclusion into a conference that we would would be given any more of a shot at a BCS championship? IF you do you are really naive! Just like those jackballs up north with their "PAC greatness" intact. I guarantee they will have as many BCS championships as we do in the next 20 years.

I say good for BYU for sticking to what is good for OUR program. It takes real balls to be a Cougar fan. And no I'm not one of those "Yahoo! we're Independent" types. But I am first and foremost a Cougar, and know that being one sometimes will require a little more intestinal fortitude than Albert François Lebrun. We shall have our sweet reward.

    Rant over...flame away.
Here is one honest big pat on your back. You are also probably one of those fans that attended the MC pre-Jimmer. Again a hefty pat on your back.

Myself, I still use the dial phone. I am loyal to the technology. However, unlike you I don't get pissed off at folks who expect more and are now using digital phones.

Not if we don't get some re-broadcast rights!

Seriously though, does anyone know how national tv appearances are doled out in the B12? I imagine its the networks that choose the matchups they want to televise. So if we have a horrible year, we could be on tv very little. At least with ESPN we have a certain limited number of guaranteed nationally televised games.
Ain't it like most people, I'm no different. We love to talk on things we don't know about.

I wonder about the quality of the exposure though. Those would be football fans watching.

People who watch replays probably have nothing going on in their life and would be more succpetable to having missionaries come over.

I am assuming that BYU's other sports (mainly Basketball) would get more exposure in the Big XII. Would this make up for re-broadcast rights and bad years in football?

People who watch replays on BYUtv probably already have the missionaries come over for dinner twice a month already.

                  Take a crack at this.

Factor in some assumptions about scheduling and competitiveness of our programs over this time.

The problem is the the fans want the Big 12 more than independence. Why do the trustees seemingly not give a shit about their fans? I got the hogwash of higher purpose, but how does BYU lose exposure by going to the Big 12? Because we'll take some lumps? Wow! Better to play in the bantam league that challenge oneself, I suppose. Declining the Big 12 or dragging feet until the deal is dead communicates that BYU prefers to win against mediocrity than compete with the best. That's a pretty shitty message, especially if its attached to a hyper image conscious religion.

Wins against WAC/SWAC/Big Sky/Twiddlywink U is not excellence. It is mediocrity. You want to know who mostly plays those lower tier schools? Yup, other lower tier schools. If that is what the BOT thinks BYU is, then they will make their first big step towards BYU irrelevance and mediocrity if/when they decline a Big 12 offer. Feel free to spin this however you want, but a vote to not join the Big 12 is a vote for the beginning of the end of football excellence at BYU.

Side note: The missionaries here are no longer allowed to eat with members between 5 and 9 unless there are investigators who are progressing with the lessons present. If not, they are supposed to be out working during those hours. I understand what the leadership is trying to do. I also understand the missionaries are going to get fed a lot less.

I didn't mean members. I meant possible converts who have nothing to do.

Also, at that time of night a guy might be sitting all alone on his coach thinking about watching Real Sex on HBO and happens to come across the game. Who knows how many folks we might be saving from watching porn.
