Can't we "stand for something higher" while increasing exposure and competing on a higher level? Something seems so hypocritical about all of this to me. If we truly "stand for something higher" we should want to be a "light on a hill". Staying Independent instead of going to the Big 12 is like hiding our candle under a bushel.

This actually makes me think BYU is still trying to work through this. If they weren't, I've gotta think there would be some kind of press release. If BYU doesn't go to the Big 12 and they never say anything else, this will be my last season as a fan. I can understand if they felt under the circumstances, whatever they may be, they couldn't make the move. I just want to hear something, anything. If they leave us hanging, that's worse than anything else they could do.drewjay Jay Drew
No surprise. BYU Assoc. AD Tittle sez on TCU/Big 12: "Nothing has changed in our approach since we released statement several weeks ago.""To the man who only has a hammer, everything he encounters begins to look like a nail."

Candle under a bushel...um you do know that BYUTV is on standard programming on Dish and DirectTV? Um, that is no candle but rather a bigger burning bush since the last time Marylin Chambers had an outbreak of chlymidia!Originally posted by Marvelous View PostCan't we "stand for something higher" while increasing exposure and competing on a higher level? How many times has Texas or OU been put on probation. I want to only stand with those other faith based institutions whose record of impeccable integrity can stand with ours.

Well, it's like this...Originally posted by USU Coug View PostI'm just heading in to work for a late shift tonight. I hope before I go to bed that all hope of a BYU invite has been quashed. Chip needs to get the scoop on this ASAP. I seriously need closer on this.

Why would BYU send out a press release to say they're not joining the Big 12?Originally posted by WashingtonCoug View PostThis actually makes me think BYU is still trying to work through this. When Microsoft sacked K & L Gates the firm issued a press release announcing what happened. It seemed odd but I was later told they did it to control the spin.Originally posted by TheBYUGuy View PostWhy would BYU send out a press release to say they're not joining the Big 12?When a true genius appears, you can know him by this sign: that all the dunces are in a confederacy against him.

To torture their fans.Originally posted by Flystripper View Postwhy did they do it a few weeks ago?
They will issue a press release because it will give them an opportunity to draw others unto the sponsoring institution as it locks arms with its faith based WCC brethren in a show of noble religious institutions of higher learning, trully in accordance with the tradition that made this Republic God's Promised Land, standing against the trends of morally bankrupt society. It is likely to increase the LDS growth percentages worldwide from .0000003 to .00000031!

That or maybe it just wasn't part of the plan formed in the pre-existence.Originally posted by Goatnapper'96 View PostGood. This is where TCU should be. They never should have been heading to the Big East...but it does give creedance that it is probably likely BYU said no thanks and now the Big-12 is going to raid more Big East teams. This is our day of infamy, Brethren!
I think the real issue is BYU wanted to make sure it could keep its good relationship with the Catholic Church. When the dust settles my prediction is the reason BYU will have said "No thanks," to the Big-12 invite was maintaining membership in the WCC.
In my heart I deeply respect the mormon church's committment to keeping its word with the WCC. Today will stand as one of my proudest as a member of the Mormon Church and I am confident our resolution to keeping our word will make us enormously popular with likeminded people not of our faith! I am sure WashingtonCoug agrees with me! Besides that he can now watch hoop games in person, with about 2000 other persons, against the Portland Pilots and other sexy NW programs!

Maybe because their fan base is going to demand it? I doubt they'll hold a press conference, so a press release is more likely. Everyone knows BYU and the Big 12 had negotiations. Unless an NDA was signed, which is totally possible, BYU needs to let their fans know the exact reason they decided to stay independent. Maybe they never received an invite, maybe it's because they fell in love with the WCC. Either way a statement needs to be made regarding the reason for the direction they have chosen.Originally posted by TheBYUGuy View PostWhy would BYU send out a press release to say they're not joining the Big 12?"To the man who only has a hammer, everything he encounters begins to look like a nail."
