We went independent and started pouring our fans tons of Kool-Aid. The administration drank that Kool-Aid and so did the Athletic Department. Then we realized it was unworkable. Our football schedules aren't impressive. Our other sports are playing in a lesser conference. We have more of the one thing we really don't need right now, exposure. In the meantime, our Winnebago driving brother-in-law, TCU, has been invited to TWO BCS CONFERENCES!!! We can't seem to pull the effin' trigger because we have a bunch of Kool-Aid drinkers driving the boat and Eddie takes his broken down Athletic Department into the seat we have wanted for more than 15 years. While all this is happening, our fan base (Kool-Aid drinkers that they are) has in large degree convinced itself that we don't need to go to a real conference because Independence is just as good so they aren't putting pressure on the Admin. and ADs. Independence was a stupid idea and, if continued, will result in the death of BYU sports.Originally posted by Marvelous View PostSeriously? You don't see how we are better off Independent than a member of the MWC? Is this one of those TIC posts that I take too seriously? If so, I think it's about time I retire from this thread. I'm being too sensitive and taking everything literally. Time to

DDD just got moded.Originally posted by Uncle Ted View PostPart of it is based on academic grounds. Among major conferences, the Pac-10 is the best academically, largely because of Stanford, Cal and UCLA. “Colorado is on a par with Oregon,” he said. “Utah isn’t even in the picture.”

I think you have a point if BYU is independent after this year. TCU had a buyer when they left the MWC. BYU didn't, but knew they had to get out if they wanted to be in a major conferenc in 2012. So if BYU is in for next year, the independent thing was worth it, easily.Originally posted by KillerDog View PostThis whole thing has confirmed for me that independence was one of the worst ideas of the century. I can't imagine how this season is better where we currently are than were TCU is.

Pitino ==>Originally posted by TripletDaddy View PostI can see Pitino wanting to stay in the Big East for hoops...it is a power conference, there are a lot of great hoops rivalries, and the Big East has a lot of good restaurants that allow table sex. Nevertheless, football is going to factor heavily into realignment so Rick might just have to get start getting his freak on at Sizzlers across Texas and the Plains states!

No idea. I dont even know if the restaurant was ever revealed. It was in Louisville, so it would be impossible for it to have been Sizzler.Originally posted by Color Me Badd Fan View PostWas it really a Sizzler where Pitino went all 9 1/2 weeks?
It could have been at any number of restaurants given how much Pitino eats out. (swish)Fitter. Happier. More Productive.

I wouldn't say it was a stupid idea, but it's looking like a failed experiment. The problem is we just can't schedule. No top 20 program will give us anything but a 2:1. No mid tier program will schedule us 1:1 for anything but the first three weeks of the season. The crappy programs know this and are negotiating us. The Pac's rule sucks for us.Originally posted by KillerDog View PostWe went independent and started pouring our fans tons of Kool-Aid. I thought we'd have better luck scheduling, but it hasn't worked out that well.

So what you're saying is that if BYU had stayed in the MWC they would've been invited into the Big East instead of TCU? And then in turn they would've been invited into the Big 12 instead of TCU?Originally posted by KillerDog View PostWe went independent and started pouring our fans tons of Kool-Aid. I'm not ready to make a judgement on MWC versus independence right now. I think it will take a little more time to determine the overall outcome of that comparison.
I don't believe for a second that BYU being independent has ANYTHING to do with TCU's invitation to go anywhere. If anything, being independent makes them more desirable as they don't have to wait to join.
So while I understand the frustration of watching others get what you want. I don't think that is a result of BYU moving to independence. It just isn't.

Dammit, if I've told you once... it's a lake that just looks and feels like a river.Originally posted by TripletDaddy View Post

People will eat Taco Bell because it's cheap. BTW, Texas also has McDonald's and Wendy's. But people aren't going to pay $15 for a McDouble, just as Texans aren't going to pay that much for whatever it is that Sizzler puts on the table.
