I think the Nebraska defection genuinely surprised them and they wanted to get some things worked out before expanding. I think there were questions about the long term stability, mostly the result of the profit sharing issues. This is why I think OU and Texas were looking elsewhere until they concluded that they really don't fit in with the hippies out west and in the end they needed each other and OU and Texas needed the Big-12. Once that was worked out it is now time to expand. For Mizzou it might be past repairing feelings with the way Texas ran roughshod over all, but the Big-12 took TCU to keep SEC from ever getting another reason to come to Texas. Now they are awaiting for Mizzou to shit or get off the can, and I tend to think the SEC wants that St Louis market. Bad move for Mizzou as they are giving up their trips to Texas for recruiting to go be fodder for the SEC. I think aTm has better prospects for success in SEC than Mizzou. I could see aTm doing better as the lone Texas school in SEC but I see no way this will help Mizzou. Back to Big-12, they now need to add 4 once Mizzou bolts. I am supremely convinced BYU will be one of the remaining 3. My guess is the other two will be two from BE. But they will have to wait 2 years to join and BYU will only join for football next year with other sports joining the year following.

Personally, I am excited to see BYU join these schools of faith: TCU, Baylor and the University of Oklahoma!

Word on the street is Elder Bednar led the revolt of the mullahs and they convinced the rest to say no. In fact I heard that BYU was offered more money than Texas but Elder Bednar responded to Bevo: Get Thee Behind Me, Satan.

I think the real issue is BYU wanted to make sure it could keep its good relationship with the Catholic Church. When the dust settles my prediction is the reason BYU will have said "No thanks," to the Big-12 invite was maintaining membership in the WCC.

In my heart I deeply respect the mormon church's committment to keeping its word with the WCC. Today will stand as one of my proudest as a member of the Mormon Church and I am confident our resolution to keeping our word will make us enormously popular with likeminded people not of our faith! I am sure WashingtonCoug agrees with me! Besides that he can now watch hoop games in person, with about 2000 other persons, against the Portland Pilots and other sexy NW programs!

So how does this work with BYU? If an invitation is offered, do TH and Pres S need to run back up to SLC to get approval from the BOT as a formality? Or have they been authorized to act without that type of final approval?

For all this His anger is not turned away, but His hand is stretched out still.

Not long ago an obituary appeared in the Salt Lake Tribune that said the recently departed had "died doing what he enjoyed most—watching BYU lose."

I'm not sure if the approval has to be in person or if they can just do it on Facetime or telephone.

OK, this logic makes sense to me. (in a homeristic view giving complete faith to notion that BYU and Big 12 are very close to working out a deal)

                      1. Big 12 has plans to invite BYU to get to 10 with plans to get West Virginia and Louisville to get to 12.
                      2. TCU has been in discussion but doesn't rank as high as BYU or WV/Lville
                      3. MO gives notice of intention to leave, and the Big 12 powers feel like this new development requires a slight strategic shift which jumps TCU higher in the attractiveness rankings. ie solidify Texas presence and keep these SEC bastards out of our recruiting grounds.
                      4. TCU is quickly invited and announced to upstage the MO announcement. MO abstains from vote.
                      5. MO announces leave for SEC.
                      6. BYU is announced as the 10th team.

I don't get this. Big 12 goes to 16. OK. Why does SEC think they need to follow. And let's say they do. Why does Pac think they need to follow?

You're back to this ridiculous assumption that a nice clean 4 X 16 is the fate of college football. It's a stupid assumption.
