The Big 12 grant of rights, when agreed to, will be for "at least six years." A message to BYU and others: "We're not dysfunctional."

I'm having a very difficult time containing my excitement here.
It was so depressing a few weeks ago, in the wake of OU, when it was clear that BYU was not interested.
This move by Texas basically creates a league as stable as the Pac12, from a "cultural" perspective (culture=money) and that's a great sign for BYU.
Dr. Samuelson, Tom, nice work. Great job. My pocketbook is coming out.

BYU was not interested. I know nobody important on God's green earth but I know how utterly absurd that comment is. I think you know a lot less important people than you want others to think you know. BYU was interested and going to the Big 12 as soon as Mork'n'Mindy U bolted with the U to the Pac. It was inevitable then and it still is. But if it gets you and our other resident Big Spendah, BYU'71, to keep donating, good on 'em! I give you both permission and God's promises that donations to BYU will suffice for any tithing you are not paying!Originally posted by Viking View PostI'm having a very difficult time containing my excitement here.

I'm choosing to mostly ignore your fatuity here and instead overwhelm you with so much data that you'll maybe, just maybe, realize that you have reams to read on this subject before you can contribute meaningfully to any conversation on this topic.

See above. I really have no idea if BYU (read: Samuelson) was serious about staying independent. But I can tell you that the other side was getting nothing but that message.Originally posted by Goatnapper'96 View PostBYU was not interested. On occassion the folks out there have been reported to have a bit of a self-inflated sense of self worth - not that present company might reinforce that stereotype. It could have been BYU did not want the current Big 12 arrangement and believed its position was strong enough to add to the tidal wave of discontent that might change the Big 12 arrangement to something more acceptable to those outside the Lone Star State. That is not to say I think BYU was the straw that stirred the drink, but that its position along with others forced Texas and OU to reevaluate their situation and recognize their mutual need for each other and the Big 12.Originally posted by Viking View PostI don't know from BYU's side because I never spoke with anyone there, but from the great state of Texas, that's what the message was.Do Your Damnedest In An Ostentatious Manner All The Time!

I think your other side might gets its info from Twitter. I doubt anyone real close to the negotiations would have gotten that opinion. My guess is BYU was upfront that they were serious about improving their situation and the current situation of the Big 12 was so unstable that BYU did not view that as an improvement, but I think BYU believed that the Big 12 would sort itself out as OU and Texas had no where else to really go.Originally posted by Viking View PostSee above. But much better home football games for BYU's program to be exposed! It could be the year that one day we all remember that change was forced upon a culture slightly resistant to change!Originally posted by TripletDaddy View PostIf BYU comes in as football only for 2 seasons, there will be no equal share for BYU in those 2 seasons.

I thought the official release that stated the existing members had reached a verbal agreement of revenue sharing for the next six years was a legitimate different development and very positive towards the endstate of BYU in the Big-12, the rest were tweets and unnamed sources making the same wild asses conclusions/predictions we have seen for weeks.Originally posted by TripletDaddy View PostToday's latest is a press conference on Wed.
