There definitely is that element out there. Maybe in huge numbers. 10-2, with 2 losses again very good teams and the wins against a couple of good ones and 8 shitty ones is wonderul to them and deserving of top 25 rankings.

Myself, I would gladly take playing a BIG12 type schedule and winning only 8 games.

It also will make folks who view BYU football as I do very, very nervous. I just don't see BYU enjoying the benefits of BCS membership like other programs. Just as I thought BYU hoops could withstand a demotion to the WCC better than say San Diego State, I think that limiting of program floor is also limiting of heights. I think BYU will compete but I am not sure if the fanbase is ready to be happy with good years of only 8 wins.

I think we will compete much better than that, though the transition will be difficult. We will re-balance recruiting in Utah to our favor again. We'll pick up the random mormon recruit who wants to play in the bright lights. We'll have money for improvements across the board...

I'm optimistic that we can be 0.500 for the first few years and then accelerate.

I think they will be if the good years aren't too far apart. 8 wins in the B12 will be unequivocal success. No debates about the crappy conference schedule, etc. Moreover, the people that remember Lavell's true glory years are getting long in the tooth. As they fade into Bolivia, the greater portion of fans will be thinking of the end of Lavell's era, Crowton and Bronco and will, I think, be more able to deal with the vicissitudes of life in a conference like the B12.
          PLesa excuse the tpyos.

The mentality of the up and coming fanbase is different. Kids at the Y right now are far removed from BYUs WAC glory days. They have grown up in an era of marginal to decent BYU football, sprinkled with a few good seasons. We see a similar phenomenon at the U...kids there don't consider the U a basketball school and know only of Urban and Whit, not of years of WAC futility.

I don't think the new generation of Y fans will have much of a problem with 8 or 9 win seasons in the B12 because that is basically what they have known all along....BYU with 8 or 9 win seasons.

Mendenhall is a very good head coach and I think has made BYU about as good as it can be. I would like to be better, but I can live with where he has taken 'em.

I could handle 8 wins or less, as long as BYU gets into a bowl game. I can guarantee that that bowl game will be more interesting than any bowl game BYU has participated in within the last 15 years.

Even if BYU doesn't lose any more games this year, we still get to go to the Armed Forces Bowl. Oooh .

Heck a BCS team can go to go 6-6 and make it into the Holiday Bowl (hello Washington 2010).

You will whine. That is what you do, but I love you for it!

The big question is whether or not YOU will attend a fireside with Blueintheface?

I, of myself, do not consider firesides a core component and will state unequivocably that I have no intention of attending a BYU football fireside. More likely than I go to a titty bar, but still real unlikely!

The Vegas Bowl against OSU was a good bowl matchup.

To be fair though, Missouri did move a meeting from thurs or fri to tuesday of this week that prevented any announcements that might have been made.

                      • I disagree with nap on the football ceiling a lil' bit. Getting in the PAC will make it easier for BYU to get some more of the LDS blue chippers with an eye for the big time. But the schedule will be more difficult to manage and great years will be 10-2 as they have been in the past. It will be interesting to see if the Big12 goes to 12 (they should) and how the divisions look.

Any of the Vegas Bowls that BYU won were good matchups.

The Vegas Bowl vs Arizona was an uninteresting matchup.

                          • Two times since 1980, we've had true Nat Champ caliber teams; 1984 of course and then 1996.

If we can have one contender team every ten years, then fans will be thrilled w 8-win seasons with the once a decade team that could challenge for the big kahuna.

They could go 12-0 3 years in a row and one of those years win the national championship and I would not be at a fireside.

I will be somewhere having folks patting me on the back and offering to by me a drink. I will tell them I don't drink and ask them, what do you know about the mormon church.
