OU president David Boren addressed a number of issues and decisions at the press conference on Thursday night, including a new important grant of rights to the Big 12.
"There was a motion adopted that all of the nine presidents expressed on behalf of our institutions, to work together in the Big 12, to stay in our conference and to strengthen our confidence," Boren said.
Boren said he felt the group needed more than just an expression of solidarity, which is why they agreed to the grant of rights.
The six year grant of rights to the Big 12 was agreed to by all the institution presidents and covers all tier 1 and tier 2 TV contracts.
"That grant of rights really has teeth in it," Boren said. "When you grant your rights, it's very unlikely you would receive an invitation from another conference."
If a Big 12 team were to move to another conference within the next six years, Boren said the money received by the team for any new TV contracts would go straight back to the Big 12, giving conferences a major reason to refuse any new applicants coming out of the Big 12.
"If you wanted to talk about one important action that does demonstrate that this conference will be stable, I think that grant of rights is a very essential item," he said.
Boren also announced the re-activation of an expansion committee designed to focus on which teams to potentially add to the conference for future expansion.

If that's true, this will be my last season attending games. I really hope he was making that up. The only way I come back is if they publicly give a very very good reason why they will never join a BCS conference.
I doubt it's true though, especially given recent statements made by bronco and others.
"Discipleship is not a spectator sport. We cannot expect to experience the blessing of faith by standing inactive on the sidelines any more than we can experience the benefits of health by sitting on a sofa watching sporting events on television and giving advice to the athletes. And yet for some, “spectator discipleship” is a preferred if not primary way of worshipping." -Pres. Uchtdorf
Dude... lately these guys haven't looked smarter than anybody.
It has been clearly pointed out that there are many good teams in the Big 12 and if they can work out their differences... they stand to make huge money together.
They need to put aside their selfishness and petty personality issues and recognize that they need each other to succeed.
Regional conferences are a driving force behind college football. They make sense and drive the emotions behind the game, it's more fun to beat up on your neighbor than some kid from outta town.
Even though I know I'm gonna hear about how much better the Big 12 is than the PAC. I hope BYU gets in with them after they resolve some of this petty and stupid squabbling.
Having two Utah teams from competing premier conferences will be good for the locals.
There wasn't any squabbling... I already said that. OU has their network.
DeLoss already said he favored equal revenue sharing.
--Dodds said Texas is in favor of sharing revenue from Tier 1 TV rights to help build stability into the conference. Orangebloods.com reported nearly a month ago that Texas was willing to end the unequal revenue sharing that has ruled the conference for all of its 16 years.
It would mean a pay cut to Texas of roughly $2 million to $4 million annually in TV revenue, but would help those who have long sought equal revenue sharing such as Iowa State, Baylor, Kansas and Kansas State, whose operating budgets are one third of Texas.
The league already has equal revenue sharing in the Tier 2 agreement signed in April with Fox for 13 years and $1.17 billion.
I will lay odd that this 'Wag the Bevo' ends up being more about OU's network and a "merger" between ACC/BE/B12 to better protect against the 3 big conferences. Move aggy to the SEC. Include WVU with them. Move two more teams to the ACC. Add in two indies and the number comes out nicely.
It will probably happen sooner than later. Not many options out there with the ACC/B12 locked down, someone is going to get nervous and start plucking teams quick.
The BYU fans on this thread have been up and down more than the hedgehog's butt.

I hate Chip Brown, either he is a tool of the devil or the bearer of bad news. Either way, the media is now reposting his tweet as evidence BYU is out, which makes me feel like we just fumbled 6 times and threw an interception.
Lets not get overdramatic. You can't really make that kind of comparison...I can't imagine any team turning the ball over that many times therefore your analogy does not make sense.
