  • If Mizzou bolts, OU to reconsider options?

    http://www.usatoday.com/sports/colle...ion/50673292/1

Said John Bell, a Norman ophthalmologist who heads Oklahoma's board of regents, "I don't see Missouri leaving making it any worse than A&M did."

But two weeks after OU, Oklahoma State, Texas and Texas Tech saw the Pacific-12 end their flirtation with that league, Bell didn't rule out re-examining alternatives if Missouri moves. "It's not like we're going to suddenly say 'we're out of here, this totally destroys it.' I don't think it does that," he said. "But … we have to look at our options. Texas has to know we're looking at our options. However limited they might be, they're probably not as limited as people think. Oklahoma's a pretty good brand."

If the Big 12 were the Brady Bunch, Oklahoma seems to be Jan. Always worried about Marsha. Even when Alice's butcher boyfriend (Missouri) seems like they might leave, it all comes back to Marsha, Marsha, Marsha.

This is awesome as Oklahoma saying it might reconsider if Mizzou leaves will then open the litigation floodgates for Ken Starr. If OU is really saying this, the SEC might just decide to move on from Mizzou instead of having to deal with Starr again. Basically OU is trying to save the Big 12 by "threatening" to explore their options.

We cannot expect to experience the blessing of faith by standing inactive on the sidelines any more than we can experience the benefits of health by sitting on a sofa watching sporting events on television and giving advice to the athletes. And yet for some, “spectator discipleship” is a preferred if not primary way of worshipping." -Pres. Uchtdorf

The shot was aimed at Texas, not Mizzou.

If OU leaves, any litigation that is viable against Mizzou/SEC is also viable against OU/new conference. They both made assurances last summer to the B12 and schools relied on that assurance when spending money for infrastructure. Mizzou undoubtedly recognizes that threat as a paper tiger at this point.

Texas is curiously mentioned in that blurb for no apparent reason. My guess is that this is OUs way of telling Texas to hurry up and capitulate on that final piece of the LHN. Texas has already given 6 years. Everyone wants 13 apparently.

          • It sounds like some schools are hoping someone else will leave, destroying the conference so that they can leave without risk of penalty or liability

            • Not all the SEC presidents are on board to add Mizzou...

Two sources familiar with the SEC's discussions about Missouri told The Birmingham News Wednesday that as of now it appears that a majority of SEC presidents and chancellors would support Missouri's application. But the sources said that majority falls just short of the nine votes required to add a new member.

One source said there's a group of presidents that wants to sit tight, believing the SEC can do better than Missouri and that No. 14 should come from the East. According to both sources, Alabama wants to look East and not risk losing its annual game against Tennessee, while Auburn favors adding Missouri and moving to the Eastern Division.
Mizzou was turned down by the Big Ten and now, maybe, the SEC as well.

              Mizzou fans...

Edit: The good news is that the Big East, MWC, and C-USA may be interested in adding Mizzou.

That would be hilarious if they get rejected again.

                • When this is all done the Big12 has got to be the most stable conference in the country. Everyone will have explored every opportunity and decided it is best to stay....or now know they have no other options.

University of Oklahoma president David Boren told ESPN.com Wednesday he believes it's "50-50" Missouri leaves the Big 12 for the SEC.

"We'll be fine either way," said Boren, reaffirming Oklahoma's position of committing to the Big 12.

Asked about a timetable for adding new members to the Big 12, Boren said it could happen in a "week to 10 days."

"There are three or four good choices out there," he said.

Let's hope so! I am so tired of waiting. I just want resolution...and I want that resolution to involve BYU accepting an invite to the Big 12.

The SEC needs a 14th. I think Louisiville makes more sense as I tend to start with rivalry's, but perhaps they believe the St Louis market is more valuable.

Either way, BYU will be in the Big 12 by the end of the 2011!
