    Ha!

That's not what he said but yeah I'm sure Florida is dying to ditch the SEC for the Big 12.

For such a successful and smart guy I swear sometimes Viking says the craziest stuff.

      Read it again.
      Give 'em Hell, Cougars!!!

For all this His anger is not turned away, but His hand is stretched out still.

Not long ago an obituary appeared in the Salt Lake Tribune that said the recently departed had "died doing what he enjoyed most—watching BYU lose."

      • Not sure which is more awesome, SU's reading skills or Viking's ability to manipulate his sphincter into formulating words.

SU, that was well played. I laughed my ass off. I am sorry though that Viking is slumming over there. Almost.

            • Hmm... Why did the Big 12 not pick up Louisville when they were cheap and easy? Instead they got WVU.

              http://espn.go.com/college-football/...st-2013-top-25

              4. Louisville Cardinals

              Previous rank: 8
Is there a hotter athletics department in the country than Louisville right now? The Cardinals are coming off a 33-23 upset of Florida in the Allstate Sugar Bowl, a men's basketball national championship and a trip to the women's basketball Final Four. With 19 starters coming back in football, including Heisman Trophy candidate Teddy Bridgewater, the Cardinals are more than capable of duplicating last season's success. Bridgewater picked up where he left off in the spring game, completing 16 of 20 passes for 214 yards. Louisville has added more weapons around him, including Florida transfers Robert Clark and Gerald Christianand tailback Dominique Brown, who sat out last season with a knee injury. The Cardinals might not be the country's fourth-best team based on talent and depth, but which opponent is capable of unseating them in the depleted Big East? Louisville plays a soft nonconference schedule (Ohio, Eastern Kentucky, Kentucky and Florida International) and its Big East road games will be played at Temple, South Florida, Connecticut and Cincinnati.

              • Honestly I think Louisville said no to them because they thought the ACC was going to call.

                  • The Big XII's choices are limited, and you would have to think they are going to expand sometime in the next few years. They are leaving money on the table by not having a CCG.

BYU is an obvious choice in terms of added revenue, but I have a feeling that Sunday play is a bigger issue than some BYU fans would like to think. Other than BYU, there are no obviously great options. Cincinnati seems to be the most commonly cited option, but Cincinnati is not a great football draw and the market size is barely bigger than the SLC-Provo-Ogden market (plus the don't have a national fan base like BYU's). I think it would be ideal for the Big XII to try to bring in the Denver market again. That is a big whole that should be their territory. They aren't getting CU back though, and CSU and AFA are both mediocre at best. Would the Big XII be willing to take a chance on CSU getting better with more money to invest in coaching and resources? I think it would be in BYU's interest to have another western team. Boise doesn't really make sense since the Boise market is very small (not even a third of the size of SLC or Cincy). Would Cincy be that much better than AFA or CSU? Would either of those teams bring in the Denver market? They would at least make it possible to get distribution of a conference television network in Denver, which would bring in money regardless.

I think the lack of a 12th team is the biggest hurdle for BYU. I hope they are trying to come up with ideas to present to the Big XII. I am not an independence hater, but the Big XII seems to be a no brainer if we can make it work.

For the Big12 to add two more schools, and not lose money doing it, they would have to bring in something like 50 million $$$. A CCG alone won't do it, and adding some combo of BYU/Cincy/UCONN/USF won't make up the difference. So I don't think it's in the cards.

One interesting option is to add two football-onlies. They still get the CCG, but don't have to pay out a full share, lowering that 50 million number. That could make BYU/Cincy more palatable, as both schools can park other sports in other decent conferences (WCC and BigEast/AAC). That would go a long way to solving BYU's Sunday policy. However, this would require the Big12 to amend it's bylaws to allow for conference affiliation.

Then again, the numbers still may not work out to bring on football-only schools.

My profession takes me to the colonial territory quite often. I was recently in Austin, Texas, and at a lunch, divulged I was a devout Mormon, as the conversation veered into the obscurities of religion.

The fellow, a high ranking member of the Texas legislature, asked me if I attended Brigham Young University. I stated, no, my degree is from Caius. He feigned understanding (Caius is pronounced "Keys"), but preceded to tell me that our beloved Brigham Young University is not a member of the Big 12 solely because of Brigham Young University. I queried: "what do you mean?" He responded, "what do you think I mean?"

Lunch continued with nary a word more of Brigham Young University.

Does your analysis explain why the P12 added Utah?

If you have a point, you should make it.

The addition of Utah and Colorado added $1 million to each of the other 10 schools above the added value of the CCG. I don't know how that fits into his analysis, but that is the most recent analysis.

If you were talking to someone from Cal or Stanford and they said "solely because of Brigham Young" the message would be clear.

In this case did you perceive it was because of BYU's religious affiliation or because BYU had to many demands?
