I say this in all seriousness. If BYU turns down the Big 12 for Indy/WCC, I am out.
I'm not quite to that stage, but I would be seriously, seriously pissed if it came out the BYU turned down full membership invite to the Big 12 to stay indy/WCC. I'm sick just thinking about it.

the only reason I would prefer independence over a the B12 is if the demise of the B12 were imminent.

Knock it off. This board has enough problems without a dose of middle-age lechery.
There sure is some kvetchtastic action on this thread.
If BYU says "no" to a B12 invite it will be because the bottom line didn't work, or because the B12 didn't make concessions on hoops and other sports, or because there is significant uncertainty about the stability of the league - or all of the above. If the B12 invites for all sports with formal long term commitments from everyone involved then I can't see BYU saying no.

I agree with this--a football-only invite to a diminished B12 isn't nearly as appealing as it might have been a year ago. I'd still be inclined to take it, but I'd at least like an understanding with Texas that if the conference disintegrates, or if Texas joins in the creation of a new superconference, BYU has some assurance of a seat at the table. Of course, I'm frequently denied things I want.
Big 12 administrators will have conference call today. Dominoes falling. BYU will have decisions to make at some point

Ain't it like most people, I'm no different. We love to talk on things we don't know about.

All this makes me wonder if BYU jumped to independence too quickly. Letting everything play out another year may have been a better option.
I'd be curious to hear your rationale behind this statement. Are you speculating that BYU's deal with ESPN won't allow them to join a BCS conference, if offered?

A&M are a bunch of pussies. They can't beat the Longhorns, so they run away. Utah got its ass beat in the 80s by BYU, but they kept coming and now we have a good rivalry.

Holmoe says he has not been contacted by Big 12; says WCC has been in touch, to make sure BYU is still on board. Holmoe has reassured WCC.

I'm tired of this soap opera. Are ya'll sure the Cougars want to ride w/ the Longhorns? When the Jayhawks/mildcats/tiggers/Clones/Dirt Burglars/Pokes invited the Texans into our beloved Big 8, I never thought we'd go thru all these twists and turns. Very un-Midwestern of us. Kind of embarrassing to be involved in this soap opera. This guy here does a nice job of covering it from a Jayhawker point of view:
