    • Some good news for the Cougs! Although it doesn't look like there will be much expansion any time soon... rumors will most likely pick up again after the season.

Bowlsby admitted that expansion is on the discussion list of every conference. “But if the Big 12 had to vote on it today, we wouldn’t take any new members in.”
So, expect expansion in the next few weeks.

Bowlsby said any prospective member into the Big 12 better be able to provide the league with stout advancements. “We believe it should be very difficult to get into this … fraternity,” he said.

It is comments like this from the big conferences that make me wish "independence" could work. The arrogance and outright in your face to others is repulsive.

Especially when I listen to the NCAA this morning talking about how we can't let football get in the way of higher values, blah, blah, blah.

I accept what is going on in college sports and the need to be with the "big boys" if you really want to be on the national scene. However, please spare me the platitudes of what a grand and noble thing it is.

I realize that Sooners may have a different definition of "poaching" considering the etymology of OU's adopted nickname (Sooner-trespasser-poacher).

But is it really poaching when a full one-third of the original Big 12 decide to leave the conference? The departed asked for an invitation to the PAC-12/Big Ten/SEC and were granted one (as did OU but they were denied).

The SEC raises a valid point in that the Big 12 has an advantage at claiming a wildcard spot in the new 4-team playoff by not playing a CCG.

                          lol. Sooner-tresspasser-poacher?

Look, I know you guys struggled in the Big 12 and didn't exactly take the Big Ten by storm, but there's no need to take it out on the rest of us.

Mystery solved! Colorado, Nebraska, Texas A&M, and Missouri all struggled in the Big 12; so they left. They just couldn't compete with Oklahoma and Texas. Hence, they fled to conferences that were not dominated by such heavy weights in order to play against USC, Ohio St., Michigan, Penn St., Alabama, Florida, and LSU.

Fact is, they all left the Big 12 for what they determined were better conferences. How did that occur? At one time, the Big 12 was superior to the PAC-12, Big Ten, and SEC in my view. Even if Nebraska had won as many Big 12 titles as OU, they would still be in the Big Ten. But not if the invite had occurred in 2000 rather than when it did in 2010. Something changed and it wasn't just Nebraska's conference winning percentage. Because Colorado, Texas A&M, and Missouri all arrived at a similar conclusion.

Oh, that's right; they were poached! In retrospect, Arkansas was visionary.

Wait. So those teams left because the conference wasn't strong enough? A little ironic, considering that those four weren't exactly boosting the conference's SOS or reputation.

I think you're confused. If Nebraska -- or any North Division team for that matter -- had managed to win a few conference titles, things would be different now, because the conference would have been home to something remotely akin to intraconference competition.
