I think when all is said and done the NCAA will rule it a recruiting violation to broadcast games of recruits on their own network. This is going to cause to much of a stir across college football. Of course this is going to be piss off OU and A&M but those are the only big-time programs Texas recruits against. LSU, Arkansas and many other big programs out there are going head to head against Texas on recruits. Texas doesn't just recruit against teams in the Big 12."Take it to the Bank"

Why would it piss off OU and A&M if they rule it a recruiting violation? If it is a violation, they would have to stop or face sanctions... no?Originally posted by Hot Lunch View PostI think when all is said and done the NCAA will rule it a recruiting violation to broadcast games of recruits on their own network. I didn't word that correctly. Broadcasting their recruits games will piss a ton of people off. Because of this, they will complain to the NCAA and when all is said and done I believe the NCAA will rule broadcasting games on their network a recruiting violation. Then, nobody will be pissed about that. They will find other reasons to be upset though.Originally posted by Sizzle View PostWhy would it piss off OU and A&M if they rule it a recruiting violation? Gotcha. I agree with your statement though. If UT is broadcasting games of recruits in Texas (or anywhere in the country, for that matter) that is not going to sit well with any other school competing with Texas for recruits as it is a huge competitive advantage. Granted, there is nothing stopping other schools from creating a similar network. Except, cost and interest, of course.Originally posted by Hot Lunch View PostI didn't word that correctly. I hope the "lol" isn't a jab at the academics of A&M and that the burnt orange isn't rubbing off on y'all. Texas A&M would greatly improve the academic profile of the SEC and more so than another fine Big 12 institution that also wears maroon/crimson and is rumored to be interested in the SEC. However, Vanderbilt (like Flystripper mentioned) would have to be considered the "flagship institution" in the SEC in regard to academics. I'm sure you know this, but the academics (or lack thereof) of the SEC is the main reason why UT won't consider joining.Originally posted by Babs View PostSports radio here is saying that the SEC wants A&M in order to improve its academic cred. The radio commentators say that A&M would become the "flagship research institution" of the SEC. lol! I love Texas!
If your'e "lol" was in regard to wanting A&M just because of academics, I apologize. It's all about football in the SEC and academics is a nice fringe benefit. If the SEC really wanted to improve their academic profile, they would invite Rice.“Not the victory but the action. Not the goal but the game. In the deed the glory.”

I saw this on another board, but I thought it was interesting.
I wonder if the commisioners of the ACC, Big10, PAC12, SEC won't get together and do what the PAC12 has done regarding scheduling OOC games outside of the first month of the season.
If all of them adopt such a policy, it would seem that Texas would be much less excited about going it alone. The first month of their schedule could be nice, but then they'd be playing Sun Belt, WAC, MWC, CUSA schools for the rest of the season. I suppose they'd get the service academies, BYU and ND, too.
Not sure Texas fans would love that. Nor would recruits.
Who knows.
Anyway, it would seem that that conferences could really put a pinch on a school like Texas going independent IF they all get together to make scheduling tough.

Perhaps with other schools, but not with kingpins like Texas and Notre Dame. The PAC-12 already apparently gives USC an exemption when they play Notre Dame.Originally posted by Portland Ute View PostI saw this on another board, but I thought it was interesting.

Texas will always have OU and A&M on the schedule regardless of conference affiliation and Texas-OU will continue to be played in Dallas in Oct. around the Texas State Fair. I don't think that schools that rely on Texas recruiting would support those OOC scheduling restrictions or at least seek a loophole for the Longhorns. As stated earlier, Notre Dame and BYU could be scheduled in Oct./Nov. And other significant programs like Texas Tech and OK St. will schedule Texas any date the Longhorns request them to. Even midwest teams like Missouri have their hands deep into Texas recruiting and would probably jump at the chance to keep playing the Longhorns or petition their new conferences to play them in November if that's the only time they can get on the Longhorn schedule.“Not the victory but the action. Not the goal but the game. In the deed the glory.”

Do people really believe you get the exposure from playing Rice that you get from playing Texas?

what exposure? you are playing in texas so you can have recruits come to the game. Schedule games in reliant stadium, jerry world and even the alamo dome.Originally posted by Coach McGuirk View PostDo people really believe you get the exposure from playing Rice that you get from playing Texas?"Be a philosopher. Yup. A game every other year deep in the heart of the Metroplex - the biggest/densest football recruiting area of the country.Originally posted by Mormon Red Death View Postwhat exposure? you are playing in texas so you can have recruits come to the game. No love for North Texas? SMU, TCU, Rice, and Houston can't even sell out there own stadiums let alone Cowboy Stadium or Reliant. It's like a team from the midwest thinking they are going to break into Utah recruiting by playing Utah St. There will be little media attention and few will show up because nobody cares. So telling a Texas recruit that SMU or Houston is on the schedule will get a coach no where. Telling a recruit that he will be playing the Longhorns or Aggies will get his attention (because that's who he really wants to play for).Originally posted by Mormon Red Death View Postwhat exposure? you are playing in texas so you can have recruits come to the game.
