or they could just have a meeting with ESPN/Fox whereby they renegotiate the contract.

I've heard from two different places that BYU will accept a provisional invitation to join the Big 12 conference sometime next Wednesday-Friday (this is when the contracts will be signed - NOT when they will be officially announced). It will be non-WCC sports only beginning in 2012, with the WCC sports joining in either 2013 or 2014. It sounds like BYU will essentially receive a FULL revenue share from year one - an adjustment will be made for the first couple of years based on its partial membership.

Other stuff being talked about is mostly already public... Dan Beebe is already cleaning out his office (seriously, rumor is he is literally already packing stuff up), 100 percent equal revenue sharing (1st/2nd tier) is a done deal, and the lawyers are ironing out some kind of "death" clause that will pretty much lock everybody into the conference for at least five years.

        Other relevant stuff...

Everyone is assuming the Big 12 will allow rebroadcast rights on third-tier networks, since BYU is probably asking for that before they'll join, and any and all high school sports content will be prohibited on third-tier networks. Any intra-conference football or basketball game shown on a third-tier network will require written approval from the school and the conference commissioner and a minimum payment to the school and conference (both parties can demand higher than minimum payments as well).

Oh, and for those of you that have known me for a while, you'll remember that my "sources" are mostly former colleagues from a certain sports-related profession I was once involved with.
Can't we work out this WCC thing with some $$$? I'm more excited about the change as it relates to BB than FB. I don't want to wait for three years.

            • If shoganai is reporting BYU to the Big 12, consider me officially concerned it won't happen.

Ditto on that... and the football team is dead to me right now.

                    • why is there so much hubbub about HS broadcast rights?

The NCAA already said no college network can broadcast HS games for at least a year, maybe longer while they investigate the impact of such a move.

                      • You know what kills me in all this... is the Big 12 for all its lack of stability is a friggin awesome collection of Football and Basketball schools (even if they add Louisville and West Virginia to go to 12). 5 years in that? Pretty sure the Marriott Center won't dip below 18,000 and LES will be packed as usual... just probably more expensive.

I guess someone needs to hold him accountable.

Would this apply to rebroadcasts? I'm sure if BYU asks for that clarification BYU can get it, because no one is threatened by BYU-TV.
I think, perhaps, the only person who hates BYU fans more than ute fans hate BYU fans, is Bronco Mendenhall.

They don't want them showing highlights either.

                              • I think the only sticking point for BYU are any provisions for making sure they don't get the Boise State/TCU treatment (show up just in time for everyone to leave).

                                In the meantime...
