Boren: Hey, so, like, we're totally nice and kick ass and stuff, even if we are kinda stupid; can we come be part of your nice conference club thing? Our club is dumb and has a bully. Oh, and can my dumb little brother come too?
Scott: Well, we kind of filled our need last year, thanks, but I'll ask.
<several hours later>
Scott: Yeah, so, the rest of the gang thinks you are dumb, so no.
Boren: Yeah, well, we didn't want to come into your stupid club anyway, so we won't file that application we had ready. Our club is cooler than yours anyway, or will be as soon as we punch out the bully.
"Discipleship is not a spectator sport. We cannot expect to experience the blessing of faith by standing inactive on the sidelines any more than we can experience the benefits of health by sitting on a sofa watching sporting events on television and giving advice to the athletes. And yet for some, “spectator discipleship” is a preferred if not primary way of worshipping." -Pres. Uchtdorf
Also, back to Boren, if you graduate in the Top 1% of your class at Yale, are elected to Phi Beta Kappa, and are a Rhodes scholar, why in the hell would you get your law degree at the University of Oklahoma? I realize this was 1968, but really?
To position himself to satisfy his future political ambitions? He's a former governor and U.S. Senator, after all. I'm just guessing here.
It could be something as simple as his family running out of money. In those days that happened more than it does now.
Then again, he appears to come from privilege, and his Wikipedia bio sure does read like a guy whose life ambition was to be an Oklahoma politician.
The Boren family has a strong interest in public policy and three generations of public service. His father, Lyle Boren, served in the U.S. House of Representatives (OK-04) from 1937 to 1947. His son, Dan Boren, has served in the U.S. House of Representatives (OK-02) since 2005.

So if the latest rumor holds true, and BYU is prepared to move all sports to the Big 12 next year if it happens. That'll mean that 3 Conferences (WAC, MWC, and WCC) will be eternally pissed at us with one (PAC-12) that just hates us. I think we've got the entire west covered now... didn't Brigham lead the saints West to get away from the hate?
And now it looks like we could be going back to Missouri with open arms...
...Porter Rockwell has to be rolling in his grave.

Did I read his statement correctly? Did he, in essence, say "we didn't really apply for the PAC, I just called them to let them know that the B12 was working together to improve."
Yep. Dumbest press release ever.

Why do you say the PAC-12 hates us? Are you referring to all those terrible things that BYU as done that SU keeps bringing up?

Wrubell tweeted a link to an OK paper that I can't link from my iPod. States OU would agree to a 10 team Big 12 that included either BYU, TCU or Air Force or a 12 team Big 12 that includes all 3
To smart people this outcome has been predictable all along. So ask yourselves why there has been so little talk about BYU to the Big 12? (I'm not counting these insular boards. I consider most every bit of inside information a lie or spin, considering the norm.) Last year we knew Utah was on Larry Scott's white board, and almost immediately after Pac 16 fell through Utah was announced as an invitee. Smart people also saw this as predictable.
If the Big 12 is safe with the remaining nine, then who will be the 10th?
The Big 12 athletic directors were seeking a 10th before Oklahoma started this latest chaos by saying it would like to explore its options. The ADs called Arkansas (no), BYU (maybe) and never got to the Big East options of Pittsburgh (now off to the ACC), Louisville (available) and West Virginia (available). BYU is an independent in football and its other sports are now in the West Coast Conference after playing in the Mountain West. If the Big 12 stays with its original targets, then BYU would be first up followed by Louisville and/or West Virginia. But those three schools, let alone one of them, would have to be assured that the Big 12 will stick together. There's always a chance the Big 12 could go for all three to get back to 12.
3D, I think mizzu still moves to the sec. I think the sec's statement is still covering for possible litigation. The big 12 can add Louisville, wvu or Cincy from the east and BYU and tcu/smu from the Midwest to fill the league back to 12.
It's just the Slaver's one shining moment in all of this:

You don't walk away from 120 years of history. As a guest here, I've found ya'lls potshots at each other's law schools and references to stupid university rankings to be a bit amusing. Kinda like our barbs w/ the Purple Pig Farmers. The Border WAR, though, is another matter. A bit more existential. I understand Mormons also have an existential gripe w/ the Slavers. Join the club.

I guess you could say that.
