I don't want anyone from the Big 12, and not because I'm scared of any of them. I like the Pac culture, the venues, etc. I think each conference should adhere to a culture and a coherent geographic footprint.

are you claiming the destinations of the Northwest, Arizona, Southern and Northern California are preferable to Austin, Stillwater, Norman and Lubbock?
Have you gone mad?
Yea it's all about being terrified of the Sooners and Longhorns.
I don't know how you would even get to Stillwater or Norman? Do you fly into Dallas and then catch a bus or ride in the back of a pickup truck? I'll be the first to admit I've never flown in a crop duster before.

While I agree with you guys in principle that superconferences are bad, you're not doing much to help debunk the perceived culture of snobbery in the PAC.

I hope snobbery and arrogance continues to reign supreme in the conference and Larry Scott tells OU and Texas thanks, but were set with 12 teams for now. We'll keep your schools name on file for the next three months in case anything opens up.
But if Scott deems that 16 teams is better than 12, I'll trust his judgement that he'll make it work. He's done a brilliant job so far.

The Pac threw that out the window when they let in Utah, unless you're referring to Pullman.
Part of it is based on academic grounds. Among major conferences, the Pac-10 is the best academically, largely because of Stanford, Cal and UCLA. “Colorado is on a par with Oregon,” he said. “Utah isn’t even in the picture.”

You're obsessed with this claim that Utah doesn't fit culturally or academically in the PAC. The presidents of the universities think it does, that's probably eating at you. In terms of culture, the U is very much like the more PAC schools. Science and research along with humanities are al available with first class faculty. In addition, our history from the westward expansion in the mid 1800s is a commonality and has left it's mark with a sense of independence and doing things our own way that the U certainly shares with it's fellow PAC 12 institutions.
Geographically the U and Do make sense. Mountains and beautiful cities. You can't argue that with Seattle, LA, Phoenix and Tucson and San Fran as big cities, and Pullman, Eugene, Corvallis, that the combination of big city and outdoorsy geography make boulder and slc perfect fits.
I agree with SU on this. I like the PAC 12 just the way it is. It makes sense and feels right.
The big 12 had it's own brand of culture that doesnt necessarily not fit, but it doesn't fit as well in the PAC.

If you've read my other posts, I've been saying all along that the Pac 16 is unlikely to happen. It's not because everyone thinks the conference is just fine the way it is, it's because the 4 inland schools wouldn't stand for it due to being separated from the California schools. The other schools and their fans would be extremely lukewarm to the idea (kind of like the fans were extremely lukewarm towards letting in Utah and Colorado), though it might be because they think the "brand of culture" has already been abrogated by letting Utah and Colorado in.
The people in the Bay Area and SoCal equate Utah with the places you guys are deriding. I'm sure Utahns think otherwise, but you're all deluding yourselves if you think a significant portion of the people in those places don't think you're a bunch of hillbillies. I don't agree with the snobbery coming out California, but the stuff that SU spouts off is pretty rich compared with how a lot of the fans of the California schools really feel.
BTW, the snobbery is even more ridiculous when you consider the schools that make up the conference outside of the California schools and UW. Utah fits in perfectly fine with the other 5 schools.

As a NorCal native and ongoing part-time resident, I will confirm that I think this. I'm constantly grateful that the environment at UC Provo shielded me from the worst of it.

Man... It's eating you up inside that The Big 12 expansion groundswell thread has turned into the PAC 16 groundswell thread... isn't it?

Is that an order?
I second that. People in Utah don't realize that most of the rest of the country is laughing at them, primarily due to preconceived and/or ignorant perspectives.
Shoot - many people don't differentiate between BYU and Utah - all weird in their mind no matter the school.
Culturally, there isn't really much in common between the new PAC adds and the original eight.
